justine wins hands down. not that it was a competition, but she came accross very well.

RustyBear · 21/03/2010 12:28

Am I the only one wondering who JSP's 'friends' who found MN too 'aggressive' were?

Rindercella · 21/03/2010 12:41

Justine won this battle hands down, but I was a little and at the "mumsnet is phenomenally civilised" comment!

SpringHeeledJack · 21/03/2010 12:44

couldn't read whole article

got derailed at thought of JSP saying "spurious"

what is her problem? I used to luuuurve her. I saw her slagging mn off on some chat show- she had evidently never even looked at it.

I am disappointed in you, Janet

Why would she think that mums aren't affected, or concerned about, problems facing school leavers or women's pensions?

Ivykaty44 · 21/03/2010 14:49

thankfully there are some working class girls on here to bring the tone down

Ivykaty44 · 21/03/2010 14:51

paisley - JSP hasn't conected that the school leavers have mothers

paisleyleaf · 21/03/2010 14:52

Ivykaty, yes, that was all I could think of too.

bronze · 21/03/2010 14:57

or that they might retire presumably

Ivykaty44 · 21/03/2010 15:08

TBF I ge the impression that JSP is a little bit to tied up with herself and therefore doesn't conncet with teenagers having parents that may use mumsnet or daughters of pensiners using mumsnet - this would have crossed her mind.

Whereas the MP's have noted that the general population that use mumnset have babies, teenagers, univesty students, parents on pensions, mums working, dads working and therfore talikng to us would be a good thing as we cover a wide population of this country.

SpringHeeledJack · 21/03/2010 16:19

I do think there is a bit of resentment towards mn from people who don't have kids. I find my child free friends can be pretty dismissive of it- without bothering to actually look.

Just like Janet, in fact.

She seems fed up about this lazy media bobbins of terming this "the mumsnet election"- I don't recall being pissed off last time cos I wasn't a Woman living in Worcester, or the time before, since I wasn't a Man with a Mondeo. Or because in ?1992 I didn't live in fecking Basildon...

[meh]

PussinJimmyChoos · 21/03/2010 16:21

Mmm....I'm just wondering if this whole lashing out by JSP is because on some subconscious level, she regrets never being a mum?? I mean why is Mumsnet being singled out so much?!

Wish other women could just let other women be fgs...what does it matter to her what we talk about on here or whether politicians are after our votes... I mean this is a woman who did a veal campaign on the F word -so she is not immune to trying to persuade people on a point of view - no different to politicians...

SpringHeeledJack · 21/03/2010 16:35

heh! heh! Puss-

I remembered that she loathed her own mother, and assumed that maybe she was subconsciously repelled by the name Mumsnet

[armchair cod pyschologist emoticon]

bibbitybobbityhat · 21/03/2010 17:08

Ooooooh seriously bitchy comment from MrsMouldie78 there. She's got a point though! I wonder how many members there are on Mumsonline now.

BranflakeGirl · 21/03/2010 17:32

SpringHeeledJack - lovin' the pysch! You could have something there.

Oh no! Maybe we're being a bit too aggressive here and JSP's friends will get upset again?! Lets just take a moment to give them all a big MN hug, shall we?

SpringHeeledJack · 21/03/2010 17:41

mmmmmmmmmmm

((((((((((hugzzzz)))))))))

bib what's Mumsonline??

I believe tis the name of the other side.

nighbynight · 21/03/2010 18:15

Mumsnet is very civilised compared with male dominated forums (sorry pedants, it just sounds better!).

JSP appears to be trying to take teh feminist high ground, on grounds of her career, but Justine politely wrestles it back to us.

bibbitybobbityhat · 21/03/2010 21:18

I find Mumsnet very civilised compared to the one other (tiny) forum I visit. There, every single thread is killed off in an eye wateringly dully cynical way by a few forumites who all know each other in rl anyway. No discussion can ever get under way without someone coming along and jumping on it from a great height with their witty (read cynical, pedantic) observations.

Mumsnet is big enough to allow threads to expand and flow for a while, sometimes a long and constructive while, before the inevitable fisticuffs.

SpringHeeledJack · 21/03/2010 21:22

you're right nbn- the first forum I ever went on was the Guardian's Comment is free, and I was over here faster than a rat up a drainpipe

In fact, next to that, on here feels like this

Lymond · 21/03/2010 21:27

What do you think about the comments at the bottom, about how many cookies linking from Mumsnet to Boden put on their computer? And some self-confessed mouldie blabbering on about it being 1 million visitors, not 1 million registered users.
