Just seen this on the news. Unexplained circumstances. Very sad. Brightened up my morning on the property programmes on my days off

"unfortunately apparently healthy young men do not "just die"." Sounds remarkably like Jan Moir to me. In fact, Jan Moir's word on Stephen Gately was "Healthy and fit 33-year-old men do not just climb into their pyjamas and go to sleep on the sofa, never to wake up again".

I am sure that this was never BBM's intent, but it's a shame imo that this misconceived belief has been stated on this thread.

displayuntilbestbefore · 02/03/2010 12:55

A great friend of mine "just died" at 31.
He was sitting in his armchair with his wife and baby in the room, he suddenly found it hard to breathe, he died.
Turns out there was a problem with his heart but he hadn't been aware of it.

The tabloids aren't interested in premature deaths if there isn't anything salacious to add to it. I'll wait for a less despicable news source to reveal the cause of death if it is deemed to be in the public interest.

BigBadMummy · 02/03/2010 13:05

rindercella, sorry, you are right, I didnt type it with that intent, though I see why you think that.

I was saying that newspapers make that assumption, not that it was my belief.

I too know instances such as displays friend, it is more common than papers ever report but there is no paper-selling-story in that.

LaDiDaDi · 02/03/2010 13:09

Very sad , he always seemed like a lovely man.

sweetkitty · 02/03/2010 13:13

A guy that was in my year at uni, 22, really fit and healthy went to bed one night and never got up, apparently he had a heart problem totally undiagnosed.

narna · 02/03/2010 13:18

Am gutted,he seemed such a lovely bloke. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

bluebump · 02/03/2010 13:26

This is really sad, we liked watching him in Living in the Sun. I thought he was a great presenter, he always seemed so lovely.

doubleexpresso · 02/03/2010 13:59

He was always so upbeat and cheerful. What a waste. Feel for his family & friends.

Rindercella · 02/03/2010 14:11

BBM, I just knew that couldn't have been your intent, based on the rest of your post. Thank you so much for not kicking off with me

DH's father died of a heart attack in his sleep at just 34 years old. He was apparently fit & healthy and played cricket to county level. I get so angry when I hear comments like Jan Moir's on SG as they are so obviously bollocks.

RaiseYourBerets · 02/03/2010 14:21

sad very sad

but god he was annoiying

mnistooaddictive · 02/03/2010 15:04

Very sad news. However he died isn't important, it is a great loss and I shall miss watching him.

sasamaxx · 02/03/2010 17:33

He was lovely - really liked watching him

Latest from the Times if anyone's interestedhere although I agree - not important how he died.

displayuntilbestbefore · 02/03/2010 17:36
Hmm
aristocat · 02/03/2010 18:11
Sad
mumto2andnomore · 02/03/2010 18:12

Really sad, cant understand why celebrities need to get their kicks this way. He seemed like a decent bloke, feel very sorry for his family and friends.

itchyandscratchy · 02/03/2010 19:31

nothing to do with slebs per se, mumto2.

1000s of people gay/straight/whatever probably do this but it doesn't get reported like it does when slebs die.

pigletmania · 02/03/2010 21:49

Very shocked and sad , I used to watch TBONTB on tv in the mornings, especailly if he was on. Lovely chap, thoughts are with his family and friends.

MrsNorthman · 03/03/2010 12:39

I'm really shocked and sad. I really liked Kristian. My brother is gay and he was always my fansasy "brother in law"! I loved his enthusiasm and genuinely seemed like a lovely man! How he died is not important but I do feel sorry for his family that the whole "whys are wherefores" of the incident are splashed all over the newspapers! Its a private thing. RIP Kristian. Such a waste of a life.

sasamaxx · 03/03/2010 12:47

I think that when someone 'famous' dies, we all question our own mortality - as though they were somehow less likely to die than the rest of us.

In a way, it probably makes us slightly more secure to think that they may have died in a situation that we aren't likely to find ourselves in. It's human nature to seek some form of consolation in a tragedy.

sasamaxx · 03/03/2010 12:49

Obviously the above is probably a reaction not reserved for the famous - any death can make us grasp at the 'unlikely to happen to me or mine' straws
