am surprised there is no mention on here of the trainer killed by a killer whale at seaworld.

very for her and her family.

But these are wild animals, and in all honesty if we try to keep wild animals with killer instincts in captivity and work closely with them, then there is always a chance that instinct will kick in one day.

The whale was doing what comes naturally - as horrible as that is.

Well no, the whale in question was taken from the wild near Iceland at the age of two.

Your money is the reason whales are taken from the wild and bred in captivity. It's your responsibility how you spend you money.

Well I guess thats what happens when you breed large killer animals in captivity, when they should be in their natural habitat all for joy and titilation of humans. At least some people got a good show though, eh?

Sorry, only just seen the question. I presume so yes, though don't know whether you mean captive or wild animals. Cross species infections can mean parasitic infections on the lungs which can cause illnesses similar to pneumonia but nastier. This is bad enough on a "normal" person but would presumably be much worse in a pregnant woman. Also, there's always the risk of a matriarch-type figure within the dolphin group harming the woman because she sees her as a breeding rival. I read a report once about a man who narrowly escaped losing his testicles because he was charged by a pair of male rough-toothed dolphins (a tropical and subtropical species) while they were in a so called sea-pen. As it was they broke his femur and the reason, they think, was because they saw him as a rival male mammal. It's very interesting but rather scary. These animals need to be admired from a respectful distance.
