No need to apologise to me Tiger....

In fact, why make a public apology at all? Woods isn't a politican elected to represent the people and expected to behave in a certain way. He's not done something heinous that negatively affects the lives of thousands. The only ones legitimately owed an apology are his family, friends and maybe a little grovelling to his sponsors. Baring his soul in public is pretty meaningless (although good telly, no doubt) and if every sports star with loose morals were to take the same route, we'd need a 24 hour channel just to cope.

Shall we all move on and get back to playing/watching golf instead?

"if every sports star with loose morals were to take the same route, we'd need a 24 hour channel just to cope."

That's actually true just for Chelsea football players

heQet · 19/02/2010 12:54

public apology? Why? Who cares - apart from his family.

It's damage limitation. Trying to protect his sponsorship deals, imo.

NomDePlume · 19/02/2010 12:57

Agreed.

Sports stars shagging around is not news, neither is it the public's job to forgive them for their abberations. This public apologies thing makes me want to vom. Nob off and sort your marriage/divorce/private life out.

NomDePlume · 19/02/2010 12:58

sorry, aberrations

well he had to do some press conference before he came back so he's doing a very controlled media exercise. Also he's sticking the boot into his old sponsors by guarenteeing that the majority of the press relating to golf this weekend will be about him and not their tournament which is taking place this weekend.

UnquietDad · 19/02/2010 17:21

Let's get this straight then. You do something wrong, you leave it a month or two and then you make a "full and frank apology" in front of the cameras, and that's all sorted. Excellent. Just so we know. Right... where did I put that list of Naughty Things To Do?

Hassled · 19/02/2010 17:24

Peter Allis on Radio 4 a few minutes ago said "What are we going to do? Everytime he gets an erection, hit it with a mallet?" .

And Tiger's sniff at the end of his statement was a sniff too far, IMO. We don't need to be subjected to the sound of his sinuses.

I really hope he wins every major this year. when he's on form it's unbelievable to watch.

AnyFucker · 19/02/2010 18:42

what utter arrogance to think everyone gives a shit what Tiger Wood has done with his dick

Earlybird · 19/02/2010 18:44

I think a public apology is part of his image rehabilitation and also part of his therapy. He has to 'own up' in public to his actions and show remorse without rationalisation or justification.

People generally think the Tiger Woods 'brand' is now worthless to sponsors, and perhaps worthless too for those who viewed him as a role model.

Yeah you're right. In fairness I probably hate him when he's winning and think he's a prize prat of a guy and want him to lose. but now that he's missing or when he's out injured t just taints everyone elses wins. As an Irishman Harringtons major wins don't mean as much because Tiger wasn't on the field.

morningpaper · 19/02/2010 21:33

WHY is this the lead news item? Have we all gone INSANE? Who gives a flying feck? SERIOSULY?

Janos · 19/02/2010 21:58

I was just thinking exactly the same thing morningpaper.

sanfairyann · 19/02/2010 22:00

us too, dh just been ranting

MattBellamysMuse · 19/02/2010 22:06

I don't want an apology from him.
He hasn't done anything to me.
He needs to apologise to those he's hurt - wife, family etc - not the general pubic.
he's just trying to rescue his shattered image.

AnyFucker · 19/02/2010 22:13

lol @ general pubic

morningpaper · 19/02/2010 22:15

I thought the problem was that he HAD been too involved with the general pubic

MattBellamysMuse · 19/02/2010 23:09

Oops. Freudian slip.

WilfSell · 19/02/2010 23:11

DH and I were sat gawping at both BBC24 and Sky News streaming it live. For fucks sake. Because I'm sure there is nothing else going on in the world.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/02/2010 23:18

Completely agree op, although you won't ever catch me watching or playing golf, just felt the need to make that clear.

As a complete aside:

Wilf - I am now convinced that you and old Swedey have a Clark Kent/Superman thing going on. I never see you hanging out on these boards at the same time, never see you post on the same threads - c'mon, you are one and the same, aren't you?

ilovemydogandmrobama · 19/02/2010 23:21

It's so incredibly self indulgent.

He's so morose anyway, but can't get too excited about golf. Hole. Ball. Stick.

piprabbit · 20/02/2010 02:26

Couldn't give a stuff where Mr Woods chooses to poke his iron.
I will be mildly interested to see if Mrs Woods is indulging in a long term revenge (tell DH there is a chance for us only if he does everything I ask, force DH to stop playing golf thereby destroying his career and only skill in life, force DH to humilate himself in public, bugger off and leave DH when he's lying in the dirt). Assume there must have been some reason for marrying him - but can't for the life of me think what it could possibly be..... personality? looks? fascinating conversation? income?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/02/2010 02:51

Was dismayed that this was the lead item on the BBC 10 o'clock news (oooh, that sounds all "shocked of Tunbridge Wells on Points of View ....)
