I liked Ken Livingstone's comments actually - he looked as though he'd been crying.

jayzmummy · 07/07/2005 14:59

Have to go now...Edgware unconfirmed reports that there are 8 - 10 fatalities at Edgware.
No confimation ATM.
Many serious and critically injured.
People are trying to get back to normal....police want London moving asap.
Traffic passing tube station.

News conference at 3pm.
Have to go to pick up DS1.....please can someone post news from conference so it keeps netters at work up to date.

Praying that all netters and their families are safe and that they will be re-united later today.

swiperfox · 07/07/2005 15:00

victoria, euston and paddington stations are open

mishmash · 07/07/2005 15:00

That is chilling Sallystrawberry

tiredemma · 07/07/2005 15:01

Right, got into work finally- a bit late.

police everywhere here in birmingham, reason i was late was because every single bus/taxi/van coming into central birmingham is being searched by police before it can continue into the central zone.

its chaos slightly so can only imagine just how hectic it is in london.

Puff · 07/07/2005 15:08

Emergency casualty hotline is 0870 1566 344

Just posted on Sky

lunavix · 07/07/2005 15:28

I don't want to cast a negative light on the emergency team set up in London to help with a terrorist attack of this scale, they appear to be coping really well and I'm sure all the victims and their families are eternally grateful.

But when a lot of people guessed we were up for the next attack - hence all the application of these procedures for emergencies in the capital - then why was there not more safeguards AGAINST it, instead of importance put on coping when it happened??

Everyone's pointing the blame at AL Quai ida (sorry, I know that isn't spelt right) but noone is saying.. how did those bombs get there??

difficult to control every passenger on London Transport. even mobile phones can hold explosives. and then there are suicide bombers, God help us.

lunavix · 07/07/2005 15:39

I know I know... it's just, how many millions will be spent picking up the pieces from today? How many millions were spent setting up that emergency team?

IIRC, at least one bomb was on the actual train, not a passenger, according to the news (which has limited reliability!)

How much money would it cost to have people checking bags? Sweeping the trains?

lunavix · 07/07/2005 15:40

Metal detectors that they have to walk through?

Permanent snifer dogs?

HappyDaddy · 07/07/2005 15:43

Dinosaur, dw works in Broadgate circle. Next door to the station.

Lunavix, would you be happy at having to go through a metal detector everytime you got on or off a bus or train? We pride ourselves on letting everyone live their lives. This is also what ID cards are partly aimed at deterring.

HD - in some countries you do.

I don't complain when boarding a plane that they've gone through everyone I own and looked to see if I have a machete stuck up my ass or something.. because if it means theres a smaller chance someone crazy will be on my plane.. I'm happy.

I have no issue with ID cards, bar the price (£300 now? They must be kidding.) I have nothing to hide and they can track me all they want frankly.

If I was on a train where a bomb exploded, I think I'd be less concerned about my privacy and more concerned about my safety.

HappyDaddy · 07/07/2005 15:49

Lunavix, i personally have no problem with ID cards (bar the cost). Can you imagine the practicalities of frisking or sweeping the hundreds of thousands of people who commute and move around London every day? It would never work.

lunavix · 07/07/2005 15:51

They have ticket checkers personally (and slowly) eyeing up every ticket. Why not check bags too?

And I'm not talking the whole of london, public transport seems to be the main target.

compo · 07/07/2005 15:52

'Everyone's pointing the blame at AL Quai ida (sorry, I know that isn't spelt right) but noone is saying.. how did those bombs get there??' Lunvix - give them a chance, it only happened this morning remember

hakuna · 07/07/2005 15:53

£300?! no way. what percent of the population could afford that?

compo · 07/07/2005 15:53

sorry Lunavix!!!!

sparklymieow · 07/07/2005 16:05

My BIL phoned MIL from Greece on his honeymoon and said straight away 'please tell me that J and M aren't in London with C?' he was freaking out in case we had an appointment, bless him.....

HappyDaddy · 07/07/2005 16:14

lunavix, do you have any idea how many people use public transport in rush hour in london? You're talking hundreds of thousands.

hercules · 07/07/2005 16:16

Lunavix- totally impractical.
