.. for taking over Cadburys.

A disgusting cheesey-vegemite-chocolate corporate mix. a finger of fudge to you greedy hedgefunds.

So where do I get my UK/EU Fairtrade/Quaker-based chocolate now?

If Cadburys had stayed in control, the Keynsham factory would definitely have closed and production moved to Poland. There was no discussion, the decision had been made. They were the main employer in Keynsham, so it would have been hideously difficult for hundreds of people to find work.

Kraft have stated they will keep the Keynsham factory open. It is to be seen if they do, but this was a very high profile statement in the media. So for people working for the company in Keynsham, the situation has suddenly improved massively.

Juls, make no mistake, when it comes to things to do with peanut butter then I miss Nutter Butter Bites and love that I can buy Reeses Peanut Butter Cups here as it has been a while since I lived there. But as already pointed out while I was at work if you can't afford the Godiva end of the market then there is no equivalent to Dairy Milk...hmmm...actually I'll be popping to the fridge after this I'm getting hungry.

Anyway, where was I, oh yes, proper sandwich making bread - I didn't like anything on offer it was so processed and cheese, without wanting to sound too Wallace and Gromit, I just couldn't find any decent yummy cheese.

It is a personal opinion although if you have alternates to try then I'm planning on taking my boys on holiday there in a couple of years so any tips appreciated

I sympathise with anyone losing their job but here are 400 jobs at Keynsham out of 6,000 in the UK in total and Kraft haven't put anything in writing (see Bath Chronicle so that's some empty PR exercise.

As for fat cat city spivs, the Guardian says 'Investment bankers, lawyers, accountants and PR advisers racked up fees at a rate of more than £2m a day'. And the 'taxpayers' bank' RBS is financing the deal.

It gets worse and worse. Just discovered Kraft own those French LU biscuits too so that's also off my list.

So here are the Kraft products to boycott. Maybe I won't give up Cadbury's until the deal is finally done. Must say that I don't buy anything much of the Kraft sh*te anyway. I avoided all the Terry's stuff at Christmas.

Hmm,thanks for that but on balance I will be sitting nad seeing what happens.

Dad has boycotted themfor a qwhile (since start of Keynsham thing) but the people of Keynshamdeserve a chance- there is nothing else there.Perhaps I amsensitive as wwe have been having a post redundancy year here ourselves, but whilst I much ptrfer UK ownderhip I will absolutely put jobs and livelihoods first. Even possible jobs.

stuckforname · 21/01/2010 08:40

Peachy, I agree, the people of Keynsham have had a hellish time, with no compassion from Cadbury, and they were facing the prospect of long-term redundancy as there really aren't any other jobs in the area.

I hope Kraft keep their promise to keep the factory open, as it is a lifeline. And anyone who thinks Cadbury wouldn't have closed factories and switched the manufacturing to Poland is living in cloud cuckoo land - they had already GUARANTEED to do so from the Keynhsam plant, and others would have followed I'm sure. So talks of 'job losses' from the take over are irrelevant, and it is more like'jobs saved'.

Hands up who has a personal pension/ work pension/ISA which is even partially invested in UK equities? Well, you all just probably indirectly supported the Kraft takeover of Cadbury's.

A fund manager has to do what is in the best interest of his client. So, if Kraft makes him an offer for a Cadbury share (which he is holding/ managing on behalf of his client- probably a pension fund/ISA holder) which in his opinion is more than the Cadbury share is worth, then he has to sell it. Otherwise he's breaching his duty of care to his client- you.

It's all very well going on about city fat cats but you have to work down the chain and see who really owns these shares, not just who manages them.

Also, how is buoycotting Kraft going to help Cadbury's jobs?

Madsometimes · 21/01/2010 11:17

I am a real Cadbury's fan.

However, Hotel Chocolate does also do very good quality "British" chocolate. Obviously it does the posh choc too, but it also does very good milk chocolate. It is a UK based company too! (No I do not work for them, more's the pity, would love to be a chocolate taster)!

Morloth · 21/01/2010 12:22

Well I would but they make Vegemite and I can't give up Nestle because they make Milo. My morals don't extend far enough to give up those two products.
