Who is in the parts of the country affected by the flooding? Cumbria? Where else?

They are reporting that a police officer is missing. Hope that they find him, my thoughts are with his family.

spoke to my mil this morning, she is in bowness. she said ambleside is cut off and parts of the road between kendal and windermere are flooded, a lot of schools closed.

Aaagh! The Lodore Hotel has a lake around it!!! Clearly Derwentwater is several ???or more???? feet over

Remotew · 20/11/2009 12:55

Kendal OK now. I left work early yesterday but was fine this morning.

Cockermouth seems to have been the worst hit.

Kendal-Windermere road is OK. The road to Ambleside was closed still this morning not sure about now.

mabh · 20/11/2009 12:56

lucy central Lakes, too? I had wondered how they were getting on. I guessed St Johns in the Vale will be silly. I love Ambleside. Poor them.

eve nymph that's something then. Hopefully homes and shops in Kendal have got away with it, then. The Eden in Appleby was over the day before, but went down quite quickly. Gratifyingly, the new flood gate things on the shops in The Sands seem to have held this time. Good job - they flood far too often there.

lucykate · 20/11/2009 13:02

mil said the level of lake windermere is the highest its been for a long time. nymphadora, my sil works in kendal, she's been at home this morning but has to go in this afternoon.

Remotew · 20/11/2009 13:04

nymph, yes I don't think there are many of us in this area posting on here regularly so you are probably safe from being outed

lucykate · 20/11/2009 13:05

we'd just been talking about going to visit mil (her husband/dh's stepdad died recently), am guessing this weekend would not be a good time to make the trip, maybe wait till next week instead!

mabh · 20/11/2009 13:05

but inevitable I'm afraid. His poor family and friends.

mabh · 20/11/2009 13:08

lucy loath as I am to say it as I am dependent on the tourist business, but I'd leave it to next weekend if I were you.

Even if the main roads re-open, the lanes have so many dips that you're wading every few feet.

MmeLindt · 20/11/2009 13:08

Oh, the poor man. And his family. My thoughts are with them.

oh no that is very sad.

mabh · 20/11/2009 13:09

car nymph I know. But I can guarantee that there are probably more people standing near that collapsed bridge now than there were last night. Can't bloody resist, can they?

mabh · 20/11/2009 13:13

and there was me just worrying about where to shop with Booth's in Keswick flooded. Gulp. Poor man

I've just managed to get through to the family in Mockerkin, who are safe but essentially stranded because the road is impassable through both Cockermouth and Egremont.

I am glad they are safe Attenborough, it must be a worry for you.

mabh · 20/11/2009 17:02

attenborough I thought that would be the case. I think a lot of villages in the area are in the same position.
