Oh why not have the election NOW. Let the buggers get in, show their true colours, become universally loathed, then get kicked out after one term. Come on, let's get on with it!

"i like gordon brown and the fact that he doesn't do 'smiley'"

Doesn't do smiley or can't do smiley?

He had the knife out stalking Blair so long his face permenantly frooze like that didn't it?

Oh dear I feel i'm in one of 'those' moods tonight.

honeydew · 08/10/2009 00:15

I thought he seems Ok when he did that interview on Mumsnet. Yes, I remember that picture of him with red eyes -hilarious!

I'm not a teacher anymore ( due to becoming the old woman who lived in shoe with 10,000 children) so I don't hate Ministers of Education as much as I used to- i.e, Estelle Morris and David Blunket!

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:16

David Blunket, what a moral pillar of society.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:20

You're on thin ground, Atlantis, if you try and talk about morals and tories.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:23

About the same thickness as Labour, especially after the expenses scandal wouldn't you say?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:26

Expenses scandals affected the tories hideously as well, as your very own Dave had to say:
So Michael Gove will pay back the £7,000 claimed for furniture.

Oliver Letwin will pay back the £2,000 for the pipe under his tennis court.

Andrew Lansley will pay back the £2,600 for home improvements.

Alan Duncan will pay back nearly £5,000 for gardening expenses.

Francis Maude will no longer claim any money for his second home in London.

And neither will Chris Grayling.

Theresa Villiers - the only London MP in the shadow cabinet ? will follow suit later this year.

I?ve also dealt with some of the smaller, but nevertheless significant, claims that have caused concern, whether that is Ken Clarke?s council tax bill in Nottinghamshire or David Willetts?s electrical bill.

George Osborne will pay back the cost of a particularly expensive car journey.

And I will pay back the only maintenance bill I have claimed in eight years as a Member of Parliament.

elkiedee · 08/10/2009 00:38

I don't see an upside.

The Tories made it clear a long time ago that they can't wait to cut Surestart programmes and presumably our children's centres, which have been one of the few good things the Labour government has done.

I'm very critical of the Labour government because it carried on with so many Tory policies, eg privatisation, and pursued some policies that the Tories only dreamed of, eg tuition fees. Labour never felt like it improved much but things will just be far worse under the Tories. Like Peachy, I'm in no hurry for the election to happen, I'd like a few more months before the misery deepens.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:39

You're having fun with this so yes, keep informing us. Just don't take some moral highground regarding the sex, sleaze and scandal tories. There's no excuse for either side.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:42

Ok.

Hodge and the isilington care home scandal

David Blunkett and the babies scandal

David Blunkett and the passport scandal

Red Ken and how many child by how many women?

Red Ken and all those 'business' procurrements with 'friends

Jacki smith and her sisters spare bedroom

Mcnulty claiming for his parents mortgage

and then there's my personnal favourite;

Tony Blair and his illegal war against Iraq.

Ohh I feel better now I've got that off my chest. Thanks.

I'm sure I could think of more, there's been so many.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:43

Oh wait..

Mandleson, well where to start with him?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:44

You forgot MPs of all colours employing relatives

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:45

I never said the tories don't have their scandals or their skeletons, show me a person that doesn't have a skeleton or two and they have lived a very boring life.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:47

I'm sure you could think of more but why the party bias, Atlantis? Doesn't it do you really good to get it off your chest about the sex, sleaze and scandal of your very own tory dears?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:48

Atlantis, so a tory's skeleton just makes his less crushingly boring, whereas a labour's scandal makes him really vile? You're lacking logic in this one.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/10/2009 00:53

Will join you again on Friday (or meet you on other similar threads). Nighty-night.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:54

Personally my favourite conservative 'scandal' was the duck house, those poor little ducks needed a refuge from the water, somewhere to hide their little heads under their wings and that duck loving mp viggers was condemed for building it for them... lost his job to boot.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 00:57

"Atlantis, so a tory's skeleton just makes his less crushingly boring, whereas a labour's scandal makes him really vile? You're lacking logic in this one. "

No i'm just feeling particually sarcastic tonight for some reason.

I think all mp's from all parties who committed the worst kind of expenses scandal should have been booted, but sadly the parties decided to protect their own, a few lost their political lives but not enough.

SomeGuy · 08/10/2009 01:07

Labour sleaze was at a higher level - Mandelson, Blair, Jowell - compared with the Tories shagging and the rather inconsequential Hamilton and Aitken.

atlantis · 08/10/2009 01:25

Personally I think the biggest scandal of all has to be the eu treaty and the fact that Labour will not allow this country the referendum that they are calling for.

If this government, who are elected by the people truely believed that the treaty was the best thing for this country then they should go to the country and put their case and let the people decide.

The treaty is not just another 'bill' going through parliament that can be revoked under the next government if it turns out to be a 'bad' thing, or the 'wrong' thing for the country, this is signing away everything that this country and past generations have fought to uphold.

By refusing to hold a referendum (whether they promised it or not ) and refusing to hold an election before the treaty is ratified they are committing the biggest act of treason in history ( or would be if TB had not changed the law to allow for the signing of the treaty).

Treason, cowardice and a lack of honour.

HerHonesty · 08/10/2009 07:00

but dont worry atlantis, cos the tories would/will give us a referendum, right, like they did on maastricht?

hmmmm. believe that when i see it.

poshsinglemum · 08/10/2009 07:30

Didn't the tories have their fair share of scandals in their time?

Wasn't Edwina Curry shagging John Major? (shudders)

I think that excessive privatisation is scandalous tbh.

I just don't feel that the Tories are on the side of women and children. I also get the impression that they resent paying taxes. Those poor people should just fend for themselves right?

poshsinglemum · 08/10/2009 07:33

To me, and pardon me if I'm incorrect, Tories aren't the caring and sharing option. Npot sure if Labour is either tbh.

ssd · 08/10/2009 07:50

the up side to the tories getting isn is that they will look after their own - great if you are wealthy

if you are on the minimum wage like me, with an elderly parent in a council house needing a lot of council care and a dh who works with disabled people you will be right royally f**d

any pretence that this won't happen is head in the sand stuff

notagrannyyet · 08/10/2009 08:32

Yes the Tories had their share of bad apples.

Edwina Curry was the one who told us all to save money by not decorating our homes so often, and she got into a spot of bother over eggs.....destroyed British egg farmers over night. Even so she was one of the better tory MPs. More down to earth than most. Ken Clark was/is a very good MP too.

I mentioned other tory bad lads earlier...Hamilton, Archer, and Aitken. I think Jonathan Aitken made some pompous speech about 'a sword of truth'. Then there was MTs favourite Cecil Parkinson.
