After five girls, finally a boy

here interesting, honest article about a father's thoughts when he had a son after five girls.

It's also an interesting article about wanting a big family and the economy of scale - something that I've noticed having three children.

Love all of their children's names. I would lvoe six children, but no way could we cope!

'According to figures published this year, 46 per cent of all British babies born now will grow up to be only children. Our midwives, already under strain, are facing an epidemic of rookie mums.'

Is this not a bonkers comment? As if more children being onlies means more mothers who don't know what they are doing? No, in fact it means fewer babies, because every mum, including his super fertile wife, had to be a first time mum at some point, no matter how many subsequent children they have.

Dumbass.

Boys tend to fly the coop in a way girls do not

But knowing that a son will go out into the world and quite possibly not come back

  • OK those statements are also bullshit. Stastically boys leave hom much later that girls and are more likely to move back again. Young women are far more independent. What century is he living in?

I gave him the news that Jo was expecting a boy. His reply was heartfelt. ?You?re a man!? he yelled.

  • Because fathering 5 daughters doesn't make him a man, only if he can produce a son? Again...what century?

tee hee

a lot of bollocks but entertaining enough

We have the mirror image of that family

Five boys and one girl and i am very glad the scales are pitched in the boys favour

Girls not easier in my house but then my girl is a lovely minx and i would not have her any other way

evil ednas - dont fret !! We all get that stream of bollocks. Imagine the pitying glances i have had to endure when i turn up with yet another blue one.

The hurtful comments never cease!

I felt really quite sorry for the his dd1 after the cufflinks incident

I have 4 dd's and would love another baby, i wouldn't mind a boy or a girl, it is the baby/child i want not the sex.

Dp is horrified that one day we might have a boy, he enjoys sedate games of my little pony and barbie, he is far too old and unfit for footie!

The author will have to edit said article big time when baby - boy - the-wonderful proves to loathe football and adore the feather boa and heels that is only my real life experience of little boys brought up by huge families of girls!

Kat, I noticed the same thing regarding that statement about rookie mums. How daft!

I'm really pleased for them - and I don't begrudge him the desire to have a boy - after all, mums often have a longing for a girl - but I think to end the article with 'You're a Man! (because you've had a boy)' is pretty horrible.

On a slightly different note, DH are from reasonably small families where offspring is concerned - our DD has three female cousins, and there are no boys remotely her age. I am a bit concerned that if we had a boy next time he would be under a bit more scrutiny than the girls.

agree thell

i have had 6 deliveries and midwives are astounded at how shit scared and babyish inexperienced i appear.

does not get any easier!

thell-

On dhs side one set have a boy and a very girly girl, the other have two girls and we have three boys and a girl. I don't think the inlaws have got their heads around the fact that the dynamics in our house are completely different and I wouldn't have it any other way. DH had two sisters. I sometimes feel judged because of what my boys are like when they get together (and their tomboy sister) because they're not quiet like all their cousins
