David Cameron in trouble

What on earth do people think it means?

He is one, anyway.

Idiot

stubbyfingers · 30/07/2009 12:32

David Cameron, for example, is a twat.

I thank you.

LouMacca · 30/07/2009 12:33

We met a lovely Scottish couple on holiday in Italy and they used the word twat quite a few times in conversation with us.

We couldn't keep a straight face after about the 3rd use of the word but they told us its not considered a rude word in Scotland?

BTW if it is considered a rude word then David Cameron is definitely one!

TheCrackFox · 30/07/2009 12:34

I don't think it is considered rude in Edinburgh. However, where I live swearing is used as punctuation.

bratley · 30/07/2009 12:36

"It looks like 'twit'. People who aren't on the street and don't use street language are maybe not aware of how strong it is. Mr Cameron falls into this category, trying to adopt street language but making "a mess of it", says Mr Thorne.

Makes the whole situation sound like that Armstrong and Miller WW2 Pilot sketch!

What a numpty.

squilly · 30/07/2009 12:36

David Cameron, for example, is the biggest twat I've ever heard swear on radio.

MmeLindt · 30/07/2009 12:37

I did not know what it meant, I am Scottish and we used it to mean "twit" when I was young.

I laughed when I saw the clip yesterday.

Flgihtattendant · 30/07/2009 12:39

can someone explain this 'for example' thing please? I missed the thread...

Stretch · 30/07/2009 12:41

He's only human. My grandad says twat, so I don't see why it's a big deal?

Curiousmama · 30/07/2009 12:43

I thought it meant pregnant fish, didn't know it was like the 'c' word?

Curiousmama · 30/07/2009 12:45

Blimey wikepedia are fast Cameron's already mentioned!

Picante · 30/07/2009 12:45

I found it quite funny.

Curiousmama · 30/07/2009 12:45

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 30/07/2009 12:49

Nettee · 30/07/2009 12:50

here is the original "for example" thread for Flgihtattendant

Nettee · 30/07/2009 12:50

beat me to it!

ShannaraTiger · 30/07/2009 12:51

I thought it was just a combination of 'twit' and 'prat', obviously I need to read teh dictionary more. Must also remember not to say it infront of my 2 year old who repeats everything parrot fashion at the moment.

ILYM · 30/07/2009 12:53

ratt with a capital P = pregnant fish

Flgihtattendant · 30/07/2009 12:54

Thanks guys

bumpsoon · 30/07/2009 13:04

Where i live it always meant someone who was a bit of a numpty ,i live in north yorkshire ,perhaps its a regional thing . I actually only realised it had another meaning after joining mumsnet ,still use it regularly though as old habits die hard

looneymum · 30/07/2009 13:07

Hi Guys. I have a word to add along the lines above.... twunt.... can you guess what this is a combo of?!! Any road my soon to be ex is deffo a one of these! xx

shavenhaven · 30/07/2009 13:08

that for example thing does my head in.

anyway i am from scotland and we used twat all the time when growing up, even now i would not think twice about calling someone a twat, just means twit to me.

Weegle · 30/07/2009 13:12

I only realised it was offensive after joining mumsnet - in my social circle it's also just means a bit of a numpty.
