CBeebies hates stay at home mums?

Ok, it's the Daily Fail but still. I think maybe she ought to turn the TV off...or switch over to Milkshake - both Peppa and The Little Princess are cared for by their parents! Are SAHMs undermined by fictional children being looked after at nursery?

And I don't even know where to start with this quote: "Is it any wonder the escalation in anti-social behaviour over the past 30 years has coincided with the rise in children being nurtured - or not - by strangers?" She's feeling undermined by not being represented on childrens' tv, and then she throws this staggeringly provocative statement in, telling us that working mums and nursery care are responsible for the increase in anti-social behaviour.

It's not really worth reading. Why are people paid to write these things? And why do I read them?

I think shes a loon who is over analysing things, she should watch the 100's of other programmes where parents stay at home to.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 25/06/2009 15:34

I read it in DP's paper just now, i was drawn to the picture of Miss Hoolie and Granny Murry, i though they might be in some sort of tantalising scandle, but sadly no it was this load of drivel instead....

cory · 25/06/2009 15:37

working mums are responsible for the increase in anti-social behaviour

but at the same time, as the DM never fails to remind us, anti-social behaviour is caused by single parents on benefits

clever people, these mums, they manage to simultaneously lounge around on benefits and swan off to the workplace abandoning their children

read a nice book instead

Itsjustafleshwound · 25/06/2009 15:41

Obviously a journalist who hasn't read the MN pages about CBeebies then ... !! There is a lot more wrong with the programmes than not promoting the SAHM model ...

What a loon!!

missymj · 25/06/2009 15:47

I'll be waiting for the 'I saw an interesting article and thought I'd cut it out for you' from my mil. She keeps lots of 'interesting articles' for me. Mostly from the DM, often regarding the very real dangers of bf or co-sleeping, or something equally ludicrous.

Thanks for thinking of me, mil.

i think there are much more dangerous programmes on CBeebies. What about Finlay the Fire Engine? He's obviously been sold into child slavery, and now has to live in the fire station with Captain Parker and never even gets to see his parents.
Do you think this is part of the government's agenda to get not only women but also children into the workplace? Are we going to be stuffing 5 year olds up chimneys?
Do think I could have a career writing for the Daily Mail?

sfxmum · 25/06/2009 15:55

it is utter nonsense was amused by the quotes about pleasing minorities etc loon
complete rubbish

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:07

"abandoning their babies"

Charming.

Another piece of utter drivel from the Daily Hate.

Even my four-year-old knows CBeebies IS NOT REAL.

UnquietDad · 25/06/2009 16:08

Nothing quite like the "strangers" word for pushing the buttons. They really are a charming bunch at the Hate.

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:14

I know!

This woman, by her own admission, has never used a nursery. So how can she possibly know what one is like?

And what the hell is she doing earning money by writing for the Daily Drivel? Surely women earning money ought to be illegal.

UnquietDad · 25/06/2009 16:15

Ooh, I feel an email coming on.

TotalChaos · 25/06/2009 16:17

as an SAHM I thought the article was bolleaux of the first order.

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:20

Ooh, let us see what you send UD!

jellybeans · 25/06/2009 16:22

I am a SAHM and never been offended etc by Cbeebies. I think Me Too! is very weird but other than that it's fine.

littlelamb · 25/06/2009 16:23

What a load of old wank. I know I like Me Too (I just like the songs really) for showing that parents do go out to work, and what they're doing while the dc are being looked after. That's not exactly anti sahm. I have my doubts about Charlie and Lola though, I suspect they have a sahm who is mostly neglectful or just on MN

scrappydappydoo · 25/06/2009 16:23

Erm - I may be missing something here but I thought balamory and timmy time were set in a preschool nursery not a day care one??
I can also think of a lot of examples of seeing parents interacting with their children on cbeebies.
I agree if she's that offended she should turn off...

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:26

Grandpa in my pocket!

That's got a SAHM

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:26

Postman Pat!

SAHM there too

littlelamb · 25/06/2009 16:26

I suspect she is on some kind of uppers though. And never changes her clothes

dollius · 25/06/2009 16:27

Pretty sure Mama Mirabelle is a SAHM

LovelyTinOfSpam · 25/06/2009 16:45

What a load of drivel.

Especially her statement about 2/3 of pre-schoolers spending at least part of their week in nursery.

That was normal when I was a kid FFS.

OrmIrian · 25/06/2009 16:51

"The message is clear: nursery is normal, fun and nothing to be scared of. But as a stay-at-home mum, I feel undermined, undervalued and angry."

Well yes, that is right. Nursery is normal, fun and nothing to be scared off. Would she prefer nursery to be dull, weird and something to be terrified of? Just to make her feel better about her choices?

Loon.

missmapp · 25/06/2009 16:53

How is she writing this drivel article if she is a devoted mother who would never leave her child for a second. Is she not a working mother aswell?

OrmIrian · 25/06/2009 16:56

You see I consistently fail to understand why people need to paint the alternative in the blackest possible colours, just to make their choice seem better. It's just plain odd.

LovelyTinOfSpam · 25/06/2009 16:57

Most children attend some kind of pre-school daycare even if they have SAHM.

The article is a pile of old tosh.
