Surely though, if strangers are staring and asking questions about the little boy, surely the first questions would be?

  1. So who are you babysitting for?
  2. When did you adopt/foster?
  3. Is this your stepchild?

Surely, logic would tell you that these questions would come first?

I could be wrong though

That's exactly what I said to dh, if I saw a family with one child of a different colour I would assume he was adopted or fostered before I assumed the mum had had an affair!

They are making a big deal of this, it's not as though people aren't used to seeing people of all nationalities in the streets. I think they are just laying the 'trauma' on thick so they are more likely to win their compensation case.

I think I used surely too many times in my last post

knockedgymnast · 13/06/2009 17:48

You're right Pixel, mind you the money is going into a fund for the children to soften the blow for when they find out they might have forrin blood in 'em

The world's gone mad!!

Pixel · 13/06/2009 17:56

Actually I do feel some sympathy because it must have been a shock for them and very confusing at first, when they had been expecting a child who looked like their daughter.

However, now the boy is 10 years old I would have expected the shock to have worn off! They really should have got to the stage where they say 'get stuffed' to anyone who has a problem with their family, rather than hiding away in 'shame'.

ToughDaddy · 13/06/2009 18:51

Most of all I was annoyed about the DM's exploitation of the children. What irresponsible jornalism!

Do people think that black youngsters growing up in a society that is saturated with negative imagery of black youngsters has an impact on their self image and aspirations?

PMSL @ Pixel

You do have a way with words!!

knockedgymnast · 13/06/2009 21:16

Yeah that's true TD but most sensible people wouldn't buy into it - I'm hoping!!
