I'm amazed they have lasted as long as they have, tbh

SoupDragon · 24/04/2009 11:37

I'm not entirely surprised, their stuff was poor quality from what I remember.

smoothie · 24/04/2009 11:43

I'm not really that suprised tbh, a shocker would be M&S, Next although neither are doing to well at the moment.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 24/04/2009 17:02

Sad but kinda predictable. Like smoothie, my shocker would be a serious player like M&S or H&M

LIZS · 24/04/2009 17:11

Sorry, not surprised. It always looked abit rough and ready to me, kind of a downmarket River Island (who may well be another casualty). I'm not sure how long Laura Ashley can hold out either.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/04/2009 17:13

Never heard of them.

littlelamb · 24/04/2009 17:14

Yes LIZS, sad as it is me and a friend were walking down our high street this week saying who wouldn't last long. Bay Trading was one of them, I think (here at least, but maybe nationally as well) Laura Ashley or the Body Shop might be next

happywomble · 24/04/2009 17:14

Lizs - oh no what do you know of Laura Ashley..do I need to buy up their whole stock as their clothes are the only ones I like!

Fimbo · 24/04/2009 17:17

There clothes were grim.

I reckon all those types will be gone shortly including the truly hideous Jane Norman.

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/04/2009 17:17

I thought Bay Trading was all slacks and comfy fleeces. Or have I mixed them up with someone else?

Fimbo · 24/04/2009 17:17

their

littlelamb · 24/04/2009 17:19

DG I think you're thinking of Cotton Traders. A nice catalogue for women of a certain age

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/04/2009 17:19

Ahh you may well be right.

I bet they are still showing a healthy profit!

southeastastra · 24/04/2009 17:21

i walked past one the other day, reminded me of one of those boutiquey shops like zoo

littlelamb · 24/04/2009 17:23

Well yes, where else am I going to find such fetching pull on trousers??

No inside knowledge of LA , just that the overpriced clothes , even in "sales" seem to hang (pardon the pun) around on the rails a long time and the home business is a bit tired with plenty of competition. They've been vulnerable before too.

happywomble · 24/04/2009 17:39

LA have definitely gone downhill in the last 10 years. But I still like their plain long and short sleeved tops - buy them in lots of colours each year!

PheasantPlucker · 24/04/2009 17:39

I hate(d) that shop. It made me feel so old!

itchyandscratchy · 24/04/2009 17:42

It always looked a bit tacky and that the clothes would be tiny too. Even if it said 14 on the label it would be a 10 in RL. that kind of shop.

For youngsters.

Not for me.

EldonAve · 24/04/2009 17:45

I used to shop there 10 years ago

This store resembled an indoor market stall with clothes to fit 8yr old girls but designed for 18yr olds. Won't miss it.

morningpaper · 24/04/2009 19:59

ooh I love Bay trading

Cheap and slutty and fits middle-aged women - it's everything I LIKE
