theyd better rewrite the storey line in eastenders then didnt the millers lose a ticket and then the jacksons find it and cash it? No-one got done then did they!!!!
findrs keepers in my opinion or they should give a reward as if they hadnt found it then the lady wouldnt have had any of it anyhow.

FAQinglovely · 20/04/2009 10:27

well before reading this I have to confess then yes I'd probabl have been tempted to keep it - but knowing that I could get a jail term - not thanks!

thing is though according to the article in the Sun it wasn't a winning ticket when they found it. It was just a ticket.

How did she prove it was hers? That's what's puzzling me.

FAQinglovely · 20/04/2009 10:40

well if you ask me she's lucky expat didn't find the ticket - else it would have been in the bin and no-one would have been none the wiser (or richer)

Lennin - would you let your children pick up a £1 coin if they found it on the floor outside a shop??

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 20/04/2009 10:46

Oh no I see now.

This is a bit like mixed up babies. It's not really anyone's fault and I think they should share it. Or maybe the person who bought the ticket ought to get most of it.

I feel for the guys who found it but seriously I wouldn't have claimed it as my own...I walked past a cash point one day with a tenner sticking out of it, and took it into the branch rather than feel the weight of karma.

ForeverOptimistic · 20/04/2009 10:48

I would hand it in and hope that I got a nice big reward from the owner of the ticket.

I wouldn't dream of trying to cash it in. I used to work for Camelot and their security department are red hot there is no way you would be able to get away with it.

SaintGeorge · 20/04/2009 10:51

You can prove ownership of a ticket if you know where and exactly when it was purchased.

There is a lot of information encoded in that bar code at the bottom of the ticket.

you see when they picked it up it was only worth £1 - as the draw hadn't taken place

it my child drops £1 it's their own bloody fault for not looking after it properly and would receive little (if any) sympathy from me

harleyd · 20/04/2009 11:12

if i had found it it would probably still be lying with the piles of other un-checked lottery tickets i buy and throw in the corner

Of course it's theft! A winning lottery ticket has a (very large) monetary value. It's rather like if you found a bag with £30,000 in it which had been dropped by accident, would you run off with it and assume it was yours?

I honestly wouldn't have cashed it in, not least because the person who dropped it must have been absolutely gutted if they knew their numbers - drop it in at a local police station and give them every chance to get it back, and if they don't then fair enough it's yours.

Cor. I consider myself pretty but clenchingly honest. I once handed in a tenner I found on the street. I always tell shop assistants if they've undercharged or overchanged me (even in Tesco).

But I would have kept the ticket. The whole thing about the lottery is that it's getting money by luck. What better luck than finding the winning ticket?

but what if the couple had found my careless child's £1 on the floor and bought a ticket with it and won?
