Not sure what to think about this. It is in The Mail after all.

I have left my dd in a car seat while she was asleep in a communal hall way as I didn't want to wake her. I sat there with her though.

I suppose it is a bit judgey, mcjudgey but I am thinking that a 7 week old baby should really be at home not in a car seat outside the Ivy or any other drinking establishment for 4 hours.

Is it acceptable because this is a celeb and it is outside the Ivy and not the local Wetherspoons though?

Twinset, that's quite possibly the best Mail headline ever!

'Coleen Nolan pours herself into ill-advised wet-look leggings for a night out with half-naked men' !!!

I feckin HATE the Mail sooooooooooooooo much. I don't hate anyone or anything EXCEPT the Daily Mail.

It gladdened my heart the other day to read that most newspaper will be dead within 10 years.

Nancy66 · 07/04/2009 17:44

it's interesting how everybody on here claims to hate it, yet they all seem to read it.

Springfleurs · 07/04/2009 17:47

I read the Sun, The Mail, The Guardian and The Times on-line daily. I like to sample both ends of the spectrum.

I don't read it

My dad and dh's parents get it so I've had years of readint it 2nd hand when I went to theirs and it all became too much and I won't even look at it nowadays.

I see links on MN sometimes and MIL updates me on the lastest spiteful misogynist poison news from it, as she still thinks it reflects Actual Life and Things That Happen

ruddynorah · 07/04/2009 18:26

maybe it's because she's breastfeeding so didn't want to be far from the baby.

itchyandscratchy · 07/04/2009 18:27

and I think what they did was fine. Better than babysitter in fact at this early stage as it means mum is 'on tap' and they don;t have to sweat their way through a night out wondering about babysitter and bab.

MuffinBaker · 07/04/2009 18:28

Talk about a thread title where info is missed out purely to cause outrage.

chequersmate · 07/04/2009 18:37

This baby is 7 weeks old and slept for four hours in the evening without needing a breastfeed (I did read somewhere she was b/fing) is all I can say to that.

I, personally wouldn't have done it with a normal car seat - but what's to say they haven't got one of those newfangled pro-sleep ones that go flat or that new britax thing that looks like a carry cot?

Springfleurs · 07/04/2009 19:01

"Sorry I wasn't trying to do it by stealth I would never have thought for one minute the baby was alone so just forgot to put it in, assumed it would be realised" .

That was my second post Muffinbaker.

I had never even heard of The Mail until I came on MN (well, OK, I had). But every second thread seems to have a link to the rag. I suspect some Mail journos are Mners...

Northernlurker · 07/04/2009 19:10

Oh come on springfleurs - look at your title - did you really type that not intending to cause outrage - you make it sound like Chris Evans left the child alone and mum was nowhere to be seen.

Fwiw I would put money on them not expecting he would sleep that long - they always sleep like that when you wouldn't mind them waking up!

Toffeepopple · 07/04/2009 19:18

I think it is fine. Mum is probably breastfeeding and wanted him where she could nip out and feed him.

Also think that long in a car seat is not that outrageous as long as it is not happening all the time. If my seven-week-old was asleep on a long car journey for that long, for example, I wouldn't have woken them for the sake of it!

My DD used to sleep 8 pm - midnight from vry early on, certainly by two months old. She made up for it by waking at 12:30, 1:00, 1:30...... maybe their baby is a bit like that?

Springfleurs · 07/04/2009 19:31

I didn't mean to sound like that and thats it. I would say if I did with a little "you got me" smiley probably.

FWIW I don't think babies of 7 weeks should be left in cars for four hours so Mum and Dad can go on the lash.

I didn't even think to put it in, it wouldn't have occurred to me that anyone would think he was unattended.

OP posts:
MuffinBaker · 07/04/2009 19:39

Hardly going out on the lash.

They went for a meal I presume, as The Ivy is a restaurant, not a pub.

noddyholder · 07/04/2009 19:48

I don't think those leggings look good on her.But any loose woman in those would get teh thumbs down from me they are all a nightmare! Think baby in car with driver is fine Not many that will sleep for 4 hrs like that when v young Good luck to them!

Springfleurs · 07/04/2009 19:49

Its a club too, apparently they went there after their meal.

OP posts:
rubyslippers · 07/04/2009 19:49

it is a bit of a non-story surely?

The baby was clean, warm and looked after

The Ivy is not the sort of place you go to get pissed ...

jujumaman · 07/04/2009 20:37

It's not a nightclub club, it's a private members club with a bar and several dining rooms.

They would have had a meal in the main restauarant, gone next door afterwards for a drink in the bar

Hardly going on the lash

tengreenbottles · 07/04/2009 21:17

my DD only slept in her carseat for about the first 3 months ,unless she was clamped to my boob ,cant honestly see any problem with this at all . oh and she doesnt have any bizarre curvature of the spine as a result .

chequersmate · 07/04/2009 21:31

I had it in my head from somewhere that newborns shouldn't be in car seats for longer than two hours but I have no idea if that's an urban myth.

We used to do long car journey and stop 2 hours into them to give her a break. I think it may not have been to do with curvature of the spine - she slept on me loads of the time and certainly wasn't straight then. Thought it was something to do with their breating but not totally clear.

Would love to know where this two hour thing came from and if it's an urban myth.

wintera · 07/04/2009 21:33

Oh FFS this is a complete non-story in my opinion. I believe its been mentioned a lot but Natasha is breastfeeding the baby. They've probably had an agreement with their driver that if the baby woke up then he would come and get her or ring them to give him his feed. On tap so to speak. Simple as that really. No need for anyone to get their knickers in a twist.
