Surely this is highly unlikely, bet there's none on here who had one during birth.

I know it sounds like a load of old nonsense, but I definitely felt it just after the 'transition period' of labour in my first labour. I'd never heard of such a thing and was completely unprepared for it and quite embarassed by the whole thing. I think that perhaps people are ashamed of it and don't admit to it as it is not the right environment or moment for such a feeling.

In my second labour, it was just pain, pain and more pain. And some more pain on top of that!

So, I can only conclude it is not to do with the individual, but maybe something to do with the position the baby is in, what it presses against etc etc. Nothing to beat women up about and nothing a woman should aim to feel. Just one of those strange, unexpected things!

glitterfairy · 23/03/2009 18:02

LOL! Its not April 1st yet is it?

Maiakins · 23/03/2009 18:07

I should also add that wben it did happen, it was a very brief moment (maybe 1 minute or less) in 24 hours of absolutely terribly pain!

independiente · 23/03/2009 18:10

Unfortunately I didn't experience this , but have read other articles where women have described this happening. Apparently, though rare, it can happen due to combination of hormone levels, pudendal nerve stimulation (I think??!!), and foetal ejection reflex! Don't really know more than that, sorry!
And as with describing any other aspect of childbirth, why should what one woman experiences make another feel like a 'failure'? Especially this, which is pretty rare...

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 18:11

I screamed. Is that the same thing?

MargotBeauregardesGavel · 23/03/2009 18:12

No. And No.

wotulookinat · 23/03/2009 18:19

Erm no.

I find UFO sightings more credible.

I think this happened to me.

Although it was hard to tell, what with all the pain.

bettany · 23/03/2009 18:37

I did go sort of out of myself and fuzzy headed in my first birth, but attributed it to the gas and air.
I'm sure I lost control in the second birth, but recall this was a shouting match with my midwife about an epidural.
I definitely didn't have an orgasm during my elective c-section, despite the anaesthetist being rather gorgeous and stroking my arm during my blood transfusion.
I don't discount things that haven't happened to me, but surely the real high is seeing your amazing newborn for the first time?

wotulookinat · 23/03/2009 18:44

fuzzy headed isn't quite an orgasm

foxytocin · 23/03/2009 18:48

no i didn't have an orgasm when giving birth but was on an adrenalin high for weeks after. that buzz was better than an Orgasm.

jeminthecity · 23/03/2009 18:55

I SHAT MYSELF, VOMITED, PISSED, SCREAMED.

Orgasm?? hahahahahahahahaha NO

wotulookinat · 23/03/2009 18:57

I don't feel a failure because I didn't have an orgasm while giving birth
what a strange reaction

i think it is very interesting
the person i know who this happened to, explained it very clearly and it all made sense

why would any woman make it up?

jumpingbeans · 26/03/2009 12:56

Well, I do remember shouting " oh god" so errr

The epidural kicking in was pretty orgasmic.

I haven't but can see how it could happen to some people - there are a lot of nerve endings down there and if you are in the right frame of mind it's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility when you think about it

Monkeyandbooba · 26/03/2009 13:41

I don't understand why we are so quick to dismiss this as a possibility, after all childbirth sensations vary from individual to individual. I for one had easy, comfortable labours and birth and my sister was in agony for both - whose experience is more real?? Answer: both of them.

Some women feel sexually aroused from breastfeeding - never happened to me but I accept that we all react differently.

Monkeyandbooba · 26/03/2009 13:43

Oh and if someone can get pleasure out of birth then they are lucky and shouldn't be mocked. This reaction is probably why women who have good or pleasurable experiences don't like to own up to this.

Anglepoise · 26/03/2009 13:57

I had a (small) orgasm during birth. I assumed it was because of all the blood rushing to that neck of the woods. It was when I pressed my legs together (though I cannot now imagine why I might be doing that during childbirth - bit bloody late, surely? ) so I had to remember to keep them apart so it wouldn't happen again (first one would have been bigger except it gave me a shock so I jerked my knees apart). It was horrible - partly because I was embarrassed in case the MW had noticed and partly because the last thing I needed right at that moment was more sensation in that area
