Mary, mother of God, how does it get any more smug and up its own arse than Cassandra Jardine interviewing 'super PR' Julia Frogspawn in Torygraph on the 'work life balance' (in other words, flogging a book full of glaringly obvious shit to numpties)

She sounds like a very unhappy stressed woman protesting too much to me.

Am I missing something here? She was in the Times at the weekend too banging on about the work life balance but she has a husband at home looking after the children and doing all the domestic chores. So WTF does she have to worry about? It's no different to a man who has a full on career with a wife/partner at home who takes care of domestic life. She wants to try working full time AND taking care of domestic life too instead of bleating on about having to visit a life coach because her life got just too... you know..... successful! Blah blah blah!

I'd like to get better at juggling. I really would. But I still think I prefer the unicycle.

Alaric is an interesting name.

'A manicurist comes to her house so she can see the children while having her nails gelled.'

She's not much of a PR if she let that little gem get in to the article. I'd have kept that one waaaaay under my hat and blathered on about Ocado and the importance of leaving the office on time blah blah blah

HeadFairy -- the only thing you're missing it that it's not about her burning desire to share her secrets with the national press. Oh no, it's her burning desire to plug her book which will make her lots of money by sharing her secrets with the bookbuying public.

"infuriated by the timings of "parents' evenings", she talks to her children's teachers on the phone" - and infuriates the teachers, no doubt. Why can't she make time to go to the parents' evenings like everybody else? She sounds very pleased with herself and I don't understand why she is pleased with herself.

My Dh is a chef and works 5 evenings a week and he manages parents evening. She really is up her own arse.

PMSL at being married to Alaric Bamping.
No wonder she kept her maiden name, and works so much. Frogspawn sounds quite bonkers to me.

Frogs.. I wonder if that's #1 tip in her book then, get all those pesky appointments to come to your house so you can have your mani/pedi and facial while Tarquin reads Proust aloud to you. Sorry, now I'm sneering

I'm surprised she doesn't get the teachers to come to her house, she could talk to them while getting her nails done and still seeing her children in the background.

What a thoroughly bilious experience, reading that piece. It's like something from Private Eye.

Her kids will grow up mental, the poor little sods. Wolfie??

Moose I know about that thread.Hence this (a continuation if you like).

This woman is a tit. As you all say, there is no genius involved in working with either servants or a stay at home spouse.

If a bloke started going on about how wonderful and 'balanced' his homelife was when he worked a lot and had a sahw, we would think him a knob.

By definition then, she is too.

I am good mates with feature editor of Torygraph. Will e mail him this thread and ask what the hell he is playing at.

no DON'T do that moondog - journalist will get a big congratulatory slap on the back for creating a 'buzz' and stirring up 'controversy' and there will be a follow-up article next week saying 'Just how much of a juggler was Frogspawn really' and we will all want to fall down a hole.

You reckon?
He's not a knob though, he's great.

My house is just like this one, except my DH has his nails glued on at work and still insists that he reads to our two year old!!

But I do feel sorry for her though, because, as she reported in her article at the weekend, "I'm not allowed to stack the dishwasher". My heart bleeds.

Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 19:53

I think we're hardly likely to listen to a woman who has to take her children out by themselves in order that they feel special. Sure that's great once in a while - but every week? Do they ever actually do stuff together?
