www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3263328/Russell-Brand-and-Jonathan-Ross-joke-radio -phone-calls-just-werent-funny.html

Have we not had a discussion about this? I'm surprised.

Seedy, sordid, unfunny little men pad obscene amounts of money to be obscene.

What's your view?

OP posts:
Thomcat · 29/10/2008 13:43

Was that directed at me??? If so pleae point out where i suggest she has no right to be pissed off as I'd like to see what I said and alter it.

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 13:44

No one at any point has said that she has no right to be upset about her grandad's call.

Upwind · 29/10/2008 13:47

I went to a fancy dress party a few months ago with a cabaret theme - I dressed accordingly and provocatively and had a great time There are lots of photos of me on the internet and various social networking sites in that costume - does that mean people can say what they like about me and suggest to my grandfather that he might want to hang himself?

And "joke" about breaking into his home while he slept to sexually abuse him?

Who here really finds that acceptable?

Hallowean · 29/10/2008 13:47

" think it's the GF that deserves the apology not her tbh, look at her, does she look like she cares that people know she's slept with RB? ank-caused-severe-offence.html "

You said "Does she look like she cares....." ie you were judging her right to upset on her appearance.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 29/10/2008 13:47

Oh I agree sobernow. Her grandfather had no need to have it discussed on his answer phone and over the airwaves. That was where the mistake was made. I still think the press reaction is OTT.

I think the ensuing fall out is perhaps worse for her. I mean she's not dressed as a goth, the photos now being published in full tecnhicolour by the DM (ever one for hypocrisy) are of her in bondage gear - which does suggest some sexual activity, surely? In publishing the photos the likes of the DM are surely being intrusive whilst professing concern for Andrew Sachs. If they were concerned they wouldn't be covering their pages in 'shocking' photos.

Thomcat · 29/10/2008 13:48

GB said " Worst of all my poor grandfather had to confront the fact I'd slept with such a rat. What girl would ever want to have to tell her grandad who she has slept with?".

That's the line I think is mad.

I have never said she doesn't have the right to be upset and to complain.

To then have to read a MN say that other MN's are implying she deserves to be raped because of how she looks and not think that that is OTT. Oh dear

This isn't getting out of control at all is it!

Hallowean · 29/10/2008 13:49

no-one upwind. Because it was said to him. It'd been alright if they'd said it to her though...

wintera · 29/10/2008 13:51

Thomcat - you think????!!!!

Hallowean · 29/10/2008 13:51

oh i agree JJ.

She's been thrust into the limelight, and the press are dictating the public view by choosing those photos.

skyatnight · 29/10/2008 13:51

Agree with Hallowean, PuzzleRocks and SoberNow.

It is mysognistic. To think it is ok to use crude language about a young woman, to snigger about having copulated with her in the sense of having 'had' her, used her.

It is offensive and cruel to leave such messages on her grandfather's ansafone. Cruel and humiliating to him.

And it is RB and the gd's private business, not for public consumption, or is should not be. It is not for someone, even one of the parties involved, to broadcast.

It is the old slag/stud argument. How the gd dresses or what she does for a living is, or should be, irrelevant.

I will be shocked if it turns out AS did cooperate in the whole prank and that it is all a huge publicity stunt.

Thomcat · 29/10/2008 13:53

Upwind, I think the breaking into his house line and the sexual abuses thing was by far the worst thing they said. Really pathetic, wrong, sick, nasty etc.

Hallowean · 29/10/2008 13:53

Thomcat, could you please extrapolate your last sentence with what I actually said as below please

"In fact, I'm surprised Georgina Baillie hasnt been raped many times. She's clearly "asking for it" "

Oh Well . . I thought it was funny anyway. But then I think I might secretly have a cock.

Where does one get these people in from to see to one's needs?

Hallowean · 29/10/2008 14:02

I havent implied MNers think she deserves to be raped at all. Who exactly is being OTT here? Along with the ""s an all.

wintera · 29/10/2008 14:04

Hullygully - I think you usually find adverts in a phonebox. Or in your local paper's personal section.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 29/10/2008 14:05

Well humour is personal, I agree that the feature wasn't funny but I never find RB funny. Last listened to JR 2 weeks ago and he told a story about taking a bunch of teenage boys to see the new James Bond film that was very funny. I've never really watched him tv show, but I find his Saturday morning show funny and can't say I've ever noticed any misogyny.

barnsleybelle · 29/10/2008 14:07

I totally agree with beanie. Well said.
The only 2 people who this should affect are Andrew Sachs and his grand daughter. Anyone who chooses to listen to JR etc knows what is sense of humour is like. If you don't like him don't listen.
The matter should be between the parties directly involved. I always wonder what type of person it is that has the time or the motivation to be actually bothered to ring and complain about something that's not about themselves.

hullygully · 29/10/2008 14:07

Wintera - can you recommend anyone? It's like tradespeople I imagine, personal reoommendations preferred, no?

SunshineSmith · 29/10/2008 14:07

Brand and Ross suspended

there you go...

Thomcat · 29/10/2008 14:09

Hallowean - I really have no desire to make this about me and you or to bicker in any way, shape or form tbh, but if you'd like to explain what you meant by
"In fact, I'm surprised Georgina Baillie hasnt been raped many times. She's clearly "asking for it" " in your post then great.

I think that sort of comment is OTT and unplesant and I gave a deep sigh at it.

To me, it seemed like you were saying - what will you lot be saying next? That she deserves to be raped for how she looks?. If that's not what you mean tthen sorry, I just can't understand why you typed that in your post after we had been discussing her image in general.

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 14:11

'suspended' just means they get paid for not doing anything until the fuss dies down ..
