Have we not had a discussion about this? I'm surprised.

Seedy, sordid, unfunny little men pad obscene amounts of money to be obscene.

What's your view?

I just bored myself by listening to it all. RB please stop shouting, sounds like that bloody doubleglazing ad on the telly.

I personally find it more offensive when I hear Scott Mills (from Radio one) guffaw any time anyone insinutates someone maybe gay.

wintera · 29/10/2008 12:25

I mean am I alone here? Doesn't anyone else think the press coverage is a tad extreme? The press only usually get this upset about murderers and peodaphiles for heaven's sake!

darkpunk · 29/10/2008 12:26

it's all so ott ..it's crazy.. only 2 people complained at the time?

give them their jobs back

lilibet · 29/10/2008 12:27

The thread is way too long for me to read it so sorry if this has been said.

did anyone else know that the recording was played to Andrew Sachs before the show went out?

sunnygirl1412 · 29/10/2008 12:29

You have a point, wintera - but perhaps people are feeling that here's something which can be more easily solved than the credit crunch/bank collapses - ie, when you can't solve the big things, at least you can solve the smaller ones - if that makes any sense at all.

cocoleBOO · 29/10/2008 12:36

Is Val Donnican really dead? When?

Boobalina · 29/10/2008 12:37
cocoleBOO · 29/10/2008 12:38

I've just googled, he's not.

As you were.

wintera · 29/10/2008 12:41

Re - Lilibet - There seems to be some confusion about this yes. Mr Sachs says he was called by the bbc who then played the recordings back to him. He then says he couldn't hear it too well down the phone and asked if he could arrange to listen to them properly. Then it all gets a bit ambiguous. Did the bbc tell him no he couldn't and he had to decide there and then or did he tell them no and they went ahead anyway? Those questions, as far as I know, have not yet been answered. I would imagine the BBC enquiry will clear it up though, and somebody somewhere, probably a producer might get the chop!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 29/10/2008 12:42

Suspended? oh FGS what am I going to listen to Saturday when I have to drive ds1 an hour and a half to shiatsu

Tasteless joke that went too far? yes indeed, but suspended is rather OTT. And wtf was Gordon Brown commenting on it. I don't give a monkeys what he thinks about JR or RB. More interested in what he thinks about the collapsing economy. Talk about jumping on a DM bandwagon.

dinny · 29/10/2008 12:46

yes, God knows why GB is commenting on it

wintera · 29/10/2008 12:49

I've decided the BBC are a bunch of goddamn hypocites. Just heard the Jeremy Vine show and Jeremy sounded so fucking pious it was unbelievable. I seem to recall him being a phone guest himself on The Russell Brand show, where he joked about sexual escapades with his wife, nonetheless. Bet she wasn't too chuffed either! He failed to mention this though, as far as I heard!

dinny · 29/10/2008 12:50

not at all generalising there then, Wintera?

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 29/10/2008 12:51

Oh Jeremy VIne is so smug he makes my skin crawl. I have to turn him off.

Thomcat · 29/10/2008 12:51

Wintera, search for posts under my name on this thread. No, you are not alone. It's all so OTT and getting incredibly tedious.

Thee ws an attempted assassination on Obama yesterday but everyone's lead news story is still RB & JR are rude to a 78 year old man.

Not condoning what they did, think they should get into trouble for it, they were out of line, it was wrong. They should be fined and suspended without pay for a period of time.

I just think that the whole reaction to this is madness and totally OTT. IU think people hvae gone crazy and that the Media, headed by the Daily Mail have whipped everyone into a frenzy.

People consider JR to be too highly paid and are unhappy with his attitude in general.

Think the whole thing should just die down now and let the family deal with the BBC and let the BBC deal with their employees as they see fit.

Thomcat · 29/10/2008 12:54

And for Gordon Brown to be involved - ohhh.....MY.....GOD. Utterly ridiculous, it is, it really is.

This is not the worst thing that has ever gone down at the BBC. This is not the worst thing that has happenbed in the world this week. I think the pitchforks need to be laid down I really do.

skyatnight · 29/10/2008 12:54

Cocole - whoops (about ValD). Apologies to anyone who may have been offended by my untimely and inaccurate report of his demise.

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 12:54

I don't get what the inquiry will reveal, the facts are plain to see.

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 12:55

I think its quite funny that the complaints keep going up, there are more complaints than listeners.

morningpaper · 29/10/2008 12:55

Jeremy Vine is awful

His brother is v v funny though

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 12:56

didn't Gordon comment on Jade too?

dinny · 29/10/2008 12:56

why did GB comment? was it in the Commons or did he make actual statement, anyone know?

rebelmum1 · 29/10/2008 12:56

Bring back Barbara Woodhouse... or was it Mary Whitehouse ..

wintera · 29/10/2008 12:56

Dinny - Generalising? Moi?? Never!!

Thomcat - Well said.

darkpunk · 29/10/2008 12:57
