were they under the stairs?

very

LIZS · 08/10/2008 17:25

Was she actually in the house when it started ? Early reports had suggested that the kids played under the stairs.

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 08/10/2008 17:27

My back door usually has things up against it - am shocked at how stupid i have been - only the hoover or ironing board (our back door is in the utility room) I usually think its a good idea to stop people getting in if they were going to rob us - but if someone needed to get it for reasons like a fire, i am making their job more difficult. I am so glad i saw this thread and so for those boys. Will make sure now that the door is unblocked.

Piffle · 08/10/2008 17:28

I heard one person talking in the co op
Apparently their relation who livesin the same street says it's common knowledge the boys did not die from the fire?
That is someone elses pure speculation
I've read nothing as find it quite sad to read however the deaths occured

Pinkyminkee · 08/10/2008 17:35

When the fire brigade came to our house to fit the fire alarms - you should have at least one on each floor of the house, BTW-he said to collect the children and run out of the front of the house. Even with smoke alarms you can have less than 2 minutes to vacate.

So if she left the house the chances of going back in time to get the chiildren were very slim.
If we can't get out the front we are to stay in our bedroom at the front of the house and if possible get onto the bay window roof.

Pinkyminkee · 08/10/2008 17:36

oops..they fitted smoke alarms, not fire alarms

forevercleaning · 08/10/2008 17:41

she has not been charged yet, just arrested under suspicion blah blah

poor little boys

wannaBe · 08/10/2008 17:43

I would rather die getting my child out than leave him to die alone while I got help.

I don't think the police would have arrested this woman if they didn't have very good reason for doing so. House fires are sadly all too common, and more often than not they are just tragic accidents. There is nothing to be achieved by arresting an innocent woman who has lost her children - there has to be more to this.

2shoeprintsintheblood · 08/10/2008 17:43

poor family, I hope she didn't do anything bad, I for one will do the "innocent until proven guilty" on this one.
As for people saying what they would have done.......

Piffle · 08/10/2008 17:45

wannabe I think you'll fine a huge line of mothers arrested convicted and jailed, who were innocent
Don't have that much faith honestly

ClaireDeLoon · 08/10/2008 17:47

Stories like this make me go cold, I lost my aunt, uncle and cousin in a house fire and it was horrific, my 11 yo cousin survived but he'd seen his mum, dad and brother fall to the floor overcome by fumes, he just jumped. Those poor little boys. The fear they must have gone through.

priceyp · 08/10/2008 18:11

It's desperately sad. When I saw the news about this all I could think was why would I want to live if my children died. It was so odd when they said she ran out and they were locked in behind her. You'd be smashing doors and windows down with your bare hands.

needtofeelinlove · 08/10/2008 18:34

My 6 year old brother and gran died in a house fire. She was overcome by fumes and found in the passageway. He was found by the back door in the unburnt part of the house. He'd obviously managed to run to the door but couldn't get out before the smoke got him. That was 21 years ago and I still cry thinking about it.

forevercleaning · 08/10/2008 18:38

needtofeelinlove

That is just so sad x

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 08/10/2008 18:39

A friend of mine works opposite this house. Apparently the mother was a heroin addict and the father in in jail - and apparently people believe there is alot more than meets the eye to this story.
Really tragic story.

ClaireDeLoon · 08/10/2008 18:41

ntfil I'm very sorry

priceyp · 08/10/2008 18:43

There always is a lot more to these stories, that's why they get in the news. ntfil & cdl that's awful, so sorry for you xx

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 08/10/2008 18:45

The father in jail? What has that got to do with anything? In the paper it said he lived away from the family. Completely irrelevant.

Imnotmama, agreed. Regardless of their situation, 2 parents have lost two small boys. Not to mention grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. It just seems that there always has to be another angle for the media.

ladytophamhatt · 08/10/2008 18:53
