I thought that his speech was great, he seems very sincere, intelligent and caring
Is the media induced hate campaign having an influence on us all?

Definitly agree that Labour have done lots to improve the country.

noonki · 24/09/2008 12:16

I am glad I am not the only one who likes Gordon. The media have been out to get him from day one and that is a crying shame.

Unfortuantly people are so heavily influenced by the media that we will end up with the bloody tories in again.

I found Blair far too false, I think with GOrdon Brown you get what you get.

The next few years are going to be difficult for everybody, but will as normal hit the poorest the most. But his stance on poverty alleviation has always been commendable, though not completely affective.

LaTrucha · 24/09/2008 12:20

I thought he did some spectacularly bad handling of the media around the early election business- but really why should we bloody care?

And I think they have been out to get him, as they used to be at the Tories.

CatIsSleepy · 24/09/2008 12:28

i think Gord is Ok and the last thing labour (and the country) needs is a leadership election
i mean what's the alternative, milliband? no thanks

i trust gord alot more than i do the tories
i think he is genuinely doing his best in very difficult times

francagoestohollywood · 24/09/2008 12:30

I like Gordon. I miss the UK Labour Party. We are in Italy now, I mean, we have Berlusconi

purits · 24/09/2008 12:33

Gordon Brown trustworthy? You have got to be kidding!
In all his Budgets he would send everyone to sleep with his boring statistics. The next day he would publish the real deal in the small print and hope that no-one was awake enough to read it.
He uses the media as much as Bliar: he knows that if what he is doing appears boring then no-one will report it and then he can get away with all sorts.

He is the master of prestidigitation.

mollythetortoise · 24/09/2008 12:34

I like Gordon too..think he is a very decent man.. can't stand Cameron..

Upwind · 24/09/2008 12:54

It is not his record as a Prime Minister that makes me feel contempt for him - but his record as Chancellor. Where he announced he would sell off our gold in advance, at rock bottom prices, raided pension funds, reformed the financial system so nobody was accountable for the regulatory mess that led to Northern Rock and HBOS.

The media have concentrated on the superficial and ignored Gordon Brown's shocking record. History will show him in a very poor light.

tonton · 24/09/2008 13:03

GB Has my vote.
I would rather eat my own (insert something gross) than vote for that repellent smarm-bag Cameron.

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 24/09/2008 13:07

I think the calamity that is Boris Johnson should be a salutary lesson in what happens when you vote in someone just because you're bored of the current incumbent.

Gordon's having a rubbish time, this is true. Will I vote Conservative because of it? Not in a million years.

PoorOldEnid · 24/09/2008 13:10

oh yes dancing for joy - also a lesson in listening to the media

elliott · 24/09/2008 13:16

I have to say I am feeling for the first time ever, that I am not sure how to vote.
I think Gordon is getting a hard time, I am also not entirely sure what people mean when they say he must 'perform' better. Having said that, I do think there may be issues about how he works with people - cabinet seems particularly dysfunctional at the moment. I also think he should never have been allowed to become leader without a proper contest - I mean, you shouldn't get to be PM just because you want it very much, do you? I think people are scared of him.

I am pretty disillusioned with Labour (in particular education and health policies and increasing privatisation) but would never ever vote Tory. Especially not Cameron's lot. And then, just when I am contemplating changing a lifetime's loyalty for something a bit more progressive, the LibDems go and turn into Cameron-lite Tory types with tax and spending cuts....talk about mistimed policy, no one is going to be able to cut spending in the middle of a recession...

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 24/09/2008 13:20

The good thing about voting Lib Dem is that they're never going to get in on a majority, but if there's a hung parliament I want their voice in there, iyswim.

elliott · 24/09/2008 13:27

Yes but not if they're going to vote for stupid things and gang up with the Tories on some kind of libertarian agenda...(which always means, liberty for those who can afford it)
I read polly toynbee the other day, she said that one of the worst things labour had squandered with their huge majority was the opportunity to change the voting system while they could. I think she's right.

throckenholt · 24/09/2008 13:33

I think ganging up with the Tories is pretty anathema to the liberals - they like their independence - even if they are not all totally sure what they want to do with it

DrNortherner · 24/09/2008 13:35

My Dad knows GB and says he is a very clever and caring man and the BEST person for the PM job at the moment.

elliott · 24/09/2008 13:35

They are working with Tories on some local councils, TH.

throckenholt · 24/09/2008 13:36

maybe locally on a pragmatic basis - but I don't think they would be able to on a national basis.

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 24/09/2008 13:36

i agree labour have achieved alot and i used to like gordon. but he is behaving v. oddly as pm. he is a big sulk and that is not good.

niceglasses · 24/09/2008 13:38

Gordon never was dreadful.

Its just that, as a country, we aren't interested in real issues or real politicians. We just want to believe what the media feeds us - we've got used to it and now when someone genuine comes along we can not stop the cynicism.

mrsruffallo · 24/09/2008 13:43

Nice glasses-my thread title was a response to another thread on MN slagging off Sarah B and labelling Gordon 'dreadful'.
I think most posters see through the media hype-most on this thread seem to anyway!

OP posts:
WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 24/09/2008 13:47

he is not genuine he is a big sulky machevelian (sp?) twat.

niceglasses · 24/09/2008 13:48

oh, my fault for not getting the gist of the thread. I'm right venomous ain't I?

Peachy · 24/09/2008 13:48
