Dare I bring up hunting?

Just seen a report in The Times about Hare coursing. It said that even though this doesn't usually start this early - an event took place so they could fit it in before the ban.(?!)

Okay - I can just about understand the reasons given for fox hunting. I live in the country and am surrounded by hunting, shooting and fishing folk. I don't necessarily agree with all they say and do but I don't interfere with them. Each to their own etc. However, just what is the point of hare coursing? As far as I can see it's just a lust for blood. It was reported in the Times article that anti-hunt protesters there were taunted with pieces of ripped up hare and bloody foxes tails. Real nice!

So are you for the ban? Or against it?

As a lifelong country dweller I am going to nail my colours to the mast here and say "Thank God this is being banned" - anyone who taunts those who don't agree with them by brandishing bits of dead animal needs a kick where it hurts to stop them breeding any more like themselves. And "yes" I know that not all hunt people behave in this manner, I live among them. They are not well served though by the ar*eholes who do behave so shabbily.

Gets off soapbox.

Awaits abuse and protests from hunting folk

Ah Winnie, I think far more people turned out for the "Not in My Name" protest than for the Countryside march thing - it gave my heart a lift. Totally agree with you - such a pintless war.

my mum works for an elderly couple who are very stately homed and toff ish very sweet old dears though, they went to watch the "final" Belvoir hunt today, but were worried, when mum asked why they were scared of the antis, whom she assumed would have kindly buggered off as the ban is now law...
The old man said
"dear girl, they will be there to jeer of course!!!"
nearly wet myself

Heard a surreal phone in on this subject on the radio this morning, a bloke rang in and said 'I don't care about the foxes what about the BADGERS hmm, it's shocking what they do to the badgers' I haven't read the thread but I won't contribute any more since I don't care whether or not hunting is allowed, certainly not enough to argue with anyone about it.

Ha ha ha, www, don't you understand that Mumsnet is all about picking fights with people about subjects you don't remotely give a sh*t about?!!!

And then wondering why you wasted four hours of your life on it?

JoolsToo · 18/02/2005 12:29

a message posted to Question Time last night read:

"I've heard fox-hunting is a lot of fun - I'm going to my first meet on Saturday 19th" PMSL!!!

the curious thing is, if it is not going to save the lives of foxes - in fact quite the opposite, what was the actual point of the law?
I understand that the actual chasing and killing of a fox in that way is not pleasant, but is it any nicer for the fox, to be lured out and then shot, have it's corpse dragged over the countryside to lay a scent for the hounds?
Is this really better?
And I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole thing as an issue that the govt should make a law out of!

I live in a primary hunting town, and I say ban it. Until you've seen the terror of a hounded fox, I don't think anyone should say they are in favour of hunting. I don't feel particularly strongly about it, I wish to sort out child abuse before fox abuse, but you only have to see the size of a fox compared to the size of a hunter to have some pity for the animal stirred up in yourb heart

expatinscotland · 18/02/2005 12:50

Cant' these folks think of s/thing more constructive to do in the outdoors than chase a fox (I agree w/you about the terror factor, cold) and get kicks out of its being ripped to bits??

Honestly, some people need to get a life!

There was a farmer complaing on BBC just today about how the hounds ran thru two of his flocks, heavy w/lamb, looking for a scent.

why is it that they dont have these brave hunters put in longlete or somewhere similars lion pens, naked with nothing but thier speed to run away and let them know how it feels would it be a sport then?i dont agree with anything that takes a life for no reason and has the stupidity to say its sport
