I find the killing of the bloke disgusting in the extreme

filming and broadcasting it is beyond me and

Its not right

ButterflyMcQueen · 02/07/2008 22:16

no one else saw the obscenity

OP posts:
PeaMcLean · 02/07/2008 22:17

Glad I missed that one.

Sounds wrong though. In all senses.

BexieID · 02/07/2008 22:19

I was busy looking on MN but DP saw it and said it was bad showing it!

ButterflyMcQueen · 02/07/2008 22:21

it looked all wrong ...

people almost trophy bearing before the man was killed

two gunshots to head and bbc delight in broadcasting it

PeaMcLean · 02/07/2008 22:27

Sorry but, where was this??? Haven't seen the news today.

TwoIfBySea · 02/07/2008 22:27

I didn't see this, am glad I didn't. Where did the shooting take place? I often feel that the media do not respect the lives of people in certain countries - for example showing the bodies floating in the water after the Burmese cyclone.

cupsoftea · 02/07/2008 22:29

didn't see this & wouldn't want to - disguisting they have broadcast this.

LynetteScavo · 02/07/2008 22:29

I was

Not the BBC's usual broadcasting style, although they did give us warning, and I didn't turn over.

PootleAndThePoseysMum · 02/07/2008 22:31

ButterflyMcQueen
I agree it was a very disturbing image and I'm still a bit unsettled by seeing it. I suppose they did give a warning before showing it but still I really don't think they needed to show it

Spidermama · 02/07/2008 22:31

What was the context? I missed it. Was it on the Ten? It's incredibly rare for the BBC to show something like this although they could be screening it almost every night. I can't help thinking they would have felt editorially justified.

Spidermama · 02/07/2008 22:32

I'm also glad I missed it. I'm a hard news journalist but to this day am still haunted by an image I saw in my teens of a man being executed.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2008 22:32

in Jerusalem you mean ? I found it disturbing

expatinscotland · 02/07/2008 22:33

i'm glad i didn't see that.

it's a new low when you rob someone of dignity in death for ratings.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 02/07/2008 22:33

I thought it was awful, when there were so many people around why couldn't they have got hold of him and pulled him out... I saw no reason to shoot him. I thought it was very very sad

Spidermama · 02/07/2008 22:34

expat it certainly wouldn't be for ratings. BBC journalists and editors are not media whores you know. They take their role extremely seriously.

expatinscotland · 02/07/2008 22:35

it's a low blow nonetheless, spider.

anyone that educated knows better than that.

shame on them!

bekkaboo · 02/07/2008 22:37

seen it aswell, bloody awfull. Do the BBC not think we have imaginations. The chap that killed him looked likesmiling just before. I thought it was disturbing viewing.

Spidermama · 02/07/2008 22:39

I didn't see it but speaking as a bbc journalist I can honestly say that this decision would not have been taken lightly. It would only have been shown for sound editorial reasons in order to show something which could not have been brought home otherwise.

ButterflyMcQueen · 02/07/2008 22:39

by the power of greyskull you are so right

expat i totally agree SHAME on all involved

OP posts:
2shoes · 02/07/2008 22:47

what I found more disturbing was the pictures of the destruction. the flattened vehicles which had had people in them. just people minding their own business.

pointydog · 02/07/2008 22:48

I have seen a couple of things like this on the telly and I think it is wrong. I strongly disagree with you, spidermamma, that it could not be brought home otherwise.

ButterflyMcQueen · 02/07/2008 22:52

the reporter appeared to relish it spidermama

OP posts:
ladymariner · 02/07/2008 22:53

I agree, 2shoes, I thought of those poor people going about their business, and then dying in such a horrific way.
Didn't spare much thought for the perpetrator tbh.

ladymariner · 02/07/2008 22:54

Saying that, I watched the ITV news and it didn't show it like the bbc have appeared to.
