according to the times and f365.
so admitting a violent assault while already in jail for a seperate vicious assault and all he gets is a suspended sentence?
an absolute joke, this scumbag should do proper time.

football365

youtube of the first assault he is currently serving time for.

do oyu think 6 mor months will make him less violent?
it sprob runnign concurrently
herman tell me hwo a suspended sentenc works

mumxx · 01/07/2008 14:44

........hides thread like a good girl

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 14:44

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeerma
tell me hwo does a suspended sentence work?

HermanMunster · 01/07/2008 14:46

well my understanding of a suspended sentence is that the sentence is set aside and the guilty party is basically placed on probabtion for a period of time (i'm not sure if it's a set period or if it's at the descretion of the courts in england) and if the guilty party (barton) is convicted of another offence in that period he may be sentenced for the original offence also.
is that accurate?
and i do believe more time in jail would serve to make him less violent as it would show him he is accountable for his actions seeing as he has not learned from past mistakes (putting a cigar out in a youth team players eye, assaulting his team mates) where he has not served time.

ooh, ooh, I know, I know
is it like the sword of damocles?

HermanMunster · 01/07/2008 14:48

sorry but why is this a "hide thread subject"
has it been done already?
i looked but didn't see anything since yesterday when he admitted guilt.
if it's been done already i apologise, didn't mean to create clutter.

I'm amazed he got off so lightly when he's a repeat offender. Judge said something about some anger management programme he's on. Only it's not an anger management programme for ordinary people, oh no, this is a special one for special footballers.

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 14:50

no ti snot accurate

thats a conditional discharge really
a supended sentence is a PRETTY harsh sentence9 not as bad as cutody0 but fo folk who find prion relatively palinless its a good way of combining the threat of prison wiht some work rehabilitating or tryint to work out WHy the offending occurs and stoping it

there is normally ONE hefty probation condition( most likely a curfew - has to be for under 6 months) or like in a sex offender case a LONG LONG arduous probation requirement.

if they breach it EVEN once then they t eh seupended sentence is activated and off they trot, no reports no nothing - we had one guy who turned up to what he thought was a breach hearing adn then an hour later was int eh van off to prison.

there is NO work done wiht short term sentencees in prison. NONE and no pronbation after " care" at all
so 6 months minus a guilty plea is 4 months
then out on licence so you are talking weeks.

until the GMT puts more ££ into prison nothign will change tbh

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 14:51

a poster on here is linked to the case.

not saying who obv

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 14:51

and i agree that punishemnt has its place but they nee dto work out why this VIOLENt young man keeps offending.

HermanMunster · 01/07/2008 14:55

i think it's quite clear why this violent young man keeps offending.
he's a millionaire who from an early age has been told he is special because he is an extremely gifted athlete. he has been allowed to be violent towards others and the worst punishment he had received before this prison sentence was to be sold by his club which in truth earned him a pay rise and a signing on fee in the region of a million pounds.
no wonder he thinks he is above the law.

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 14:55

oh ok then.

mumxx · 01/07/2008 14:59

i think you'll find that's why i said "i think" at the start of the post.
i did not state it as fact.
i didn't realise i was not allowed to post opinions on criminals who have been convicted for violent crimes for fear of hurting their feelings.
suppose he can just point to his bad upbringing and we should all feel sorry for him.

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 15:04

violent offenders - seriosu ones are reclassified as " dangerous offenders" adn thee is a HWOL load of rules about them.
offneders often retun to court if nothign chancges ime( and its limited)
so they go to prison come out
Nothing has chaged has it? they may now have hsouing adn job issues - have lost their family so yes they deserve to be punished but if the aim of prison is to reform we are doign a pretty bad job

some folk are just badduns
maybe barton is
i dont knwo him

TheChicken · 01/07/2008 15:05

herman do you write for the "black and white" newspaper?

HermanMunster · 01/07/2008 15:08

no i was simply pointing out that i offered an opinion and instantly received a sarcastic reply so decided to offer one back.

in all seriousness (putting my sarcastic head to one side for a moment)

he did a dreadful thing. I am not arguing with that. He committed an awful crime.

He was found guilty.

He was sentenced.

Once that sentence has been carried out, he has served his time and should be allowed to carry on his life.

There is an article here about a boy who is still being punished for a crime that he has already served his time for. Read it.

What you guys are saying about Joey Barton amounts to the same thing, even though the circumstances are different.

I am interested in whether you think that convicted criminals should be permitted to return to society. Ever?
