I do wonder what teenagers have to do, not to be criticised MaryAnn
Amiable boy pilloried as tedious saddo for enjoying good health...

it's envy if you ask me

Marina · 13/06/2008 13:51

Fio what are you on this morning

Swedes · 13/06/2008 13:56

I have four children. Apart from immunisations and routine health check-ups, I have never taken my children to the GP or called out a doctor. I have however been to casualty a few times.

lilolilmanchester · 13/06/2008 14:14

"It is inconceivable that he was never ill during this time, therefore he went to School whilst ill, which is bad for him and bad for the other children." Sorry, don't agree. I have a DS in Yr 10 and a DD in Yr5. Neither have missed a day due to illness and neither have been sent in to school ill. Both have been collected from school early on a couple of occasions -and I mean a couple - when they've felt unwell.
Equally I've worked for the same company for 23 years and have had a total of 2 days off sick (apart from a week with a bad back and a week post miscarriage). Some people are just blessed with stronger immune systems I guess. But find it a bit harsh to say they are dull or being sent into school ill. Not necessarily the case.

RusselBrussel · 13/06/2008 21:57

But if you collected your child from school early because they were unwell, did you then send them straight back the next day? Not give them a day to get over whatever they were sent home for?

Not critisizing (sp), genuinly curious. Maybe I am too soft?

lilolilmanchester · 15/06/2008 18:25

yes, but only because they've been well enough. None of us ever get really ill, think we're just lucky.

RusselBrussel · 15/06/2008 19:55

Very lucky

I was at school from age 5-18 and only had 2 days off sick- tummy bug in primary one. I also missed a couple of hours for a music exam aged 15. I never went to school ill- hardly ever went to the dr or anything.

My family did lots of fun things- just not when I should have been at school.

I've never been off work with a physical illness either except pregnancy related vomiting (8 days off last year with hyperemesis, was in hospital for 5 of these). I have however had in total 3 weeks off with depression- not something that was a problem at school.

The hyperemesis was a shock as I hadn't vomited since I was 12!

Some people just don't tend to catch things. My sister is the same. We were both breastfed til age one, maybe that helped.
