Gordon - what's really going on?

DaDaDa · 23/05/2008 09:31

So, the economy is buggering up (was always going to happen sooner or later). He fudged the early election decision, and the 10p tax band abolition.

But it seems there's something else that Westminster insiders are alluding to, but can't say outright. That he's losing it completely and hates the job.

Does anyone know what is really going on? Or would like to speculate wildly?

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 24/05/2008 13:34

oh, I just assumed he was one of these

had no idea there might be more to it

edam · 24/05/2008 13:34

He's a strange, strange man. Appointed all these 'advisors' from outside govt. and the Labour party but never, ever talks to any of them. They send off emails into the ether and never get any response. Doesn't seem to listen to anyone aside from a small coterie.

I think he's convinced that he is a. right and b. clever so everything he thinks is right and clever and will work. Sadly this is not true.

Fillyjonk · 24/05/2008 13:38

I have no idea if he is gay or not, but I don't think that being gay would really explain how appallingly little he has done with the job.

I do honestly think that he is just not very good at his job. he was a very good chancellor, though a lot of what he did was appalling. but he did it well, iyswim.

fymandbean · 24/05/2008 13:48

(PS, don't really care either way if he's gay or straight just wish we lived in a world where politicians could be honest about sexuality and still get elected!)

Nighbynight · 24/05/2008 23:31

maybe his problem is that he thought he could do policies that he wanted, and now he has realised how little power the prime minister actually has?

Bubble99 · 24/05/2008 23:33

He's blown all of the money and now realises that people can't take any more of his not-so-stealthy-now, taxes.

It's something about him being gay.

Am reliably informed

is it the rocking horse story, mogwai ?

ButterflyMcQueen · 29/05/2008 04:28

years and years ago i was told by someone in the know that he was gay ....

i say give him a break chance - he has barely started the job

AtheneNoctua · 29/05/2008 10:43

He has not barely started the job. It isn't like he was an outside when he moved into number 10. I mena he was literally already in the neighborhood. He has been there for what?? 12 years?

It doesn't really matter if he leaves tomorrow or next year. The damage is done. And no one can stop it now. We will just have to tighten our belts and ride the storm.

margoandjerry · 29/05/2008 10:48

Those rumours have been around for years (used to work for him so I've heard it all before). Don't think that's what's going on. It's just the tide has turned and people have very short memories. When it turns it turns and there's nothing you can do.

saltire · 29/05/2008 10:53

Do you think the national media would have been so hard on him and so critical of everything if he had been English or Welsh?
It does seem to have gone really badly for him, but why is that?

AtheneNoctua · 29/05/2008 11:23

Because the bad decisions he nade as chancellor are coming home to roost. And as Margo says, people do have short memories when it comes to politics.

He claimed vicrory when times were good. And now that the tide is turning he is going to have a hard time selling "nothin' to do with me".

UnquietDad · 29/05/2008 11:25

There is apparently a very interesting photo of Gordon on a rocking-horse wearing a nappy. So I've heard. An adult Gordon, I mean.

beansprout · 29/05/2008 11:27
Hmm
UnquietDad · 29/05/2008 11:35

May just be rumour, of course.

DrNortherner · 29/05/2008 11:40

I think it is really unfair the harsh treatment he is receiving.

I think he could crack under the pressure but as a control freak he does not want to admit defeat and step down.

He's a nice man actually. Just not a geat Primeminister.

swiftyknickers · 29/05/2008 11:52

he is gay-100%-always has been
very reliable source

Piffle · 29/05/2008 11:56

but hardly relevant
Surely Gay folks can govern as well as the next straight folks?

He's governing through a recession which by a few of his choices makes him look like he caused it, which is not actually true.
He has not helped himself.

He is better than he appears I think.
But he will not survive this recession I bet.

Then we'll have David Miliband or Ed Balls I expects

Freckle · 29/05/2008 12:02

I don't think people would mind so much if he was openly gay. I think it's the "let's pretend I'm hereto and have a family" scenario that is objectionable in some people's eyes - I believe there have been a number of Tories who perpetuated that little myth over the years and probably a fair number of Labour politicians too.

Alastair Darling hasn't had much of a mention in the press though, has he? Isn't he chancellor now rather than GB? Probably drafted in as a scapegoat.

AtheneNoctua · 29/05/2008 12:02

I think you mean David Cameron. Or do you mean that there will be a leadership challenge before the general election has to be called?

Freckle · 29/05/2008 12:03

Sorry. I knew that didn't look right. Should be "hetero", not "hereto" .

AtheneNoctua · 29/05/2008 12:04

Oh good grief. I hate Gordon Brown as much as anyone. But, not because he is, isn't, or might be gay. Who cares (except maybe Sarah)?

fymandbean · 29/05/2008 12:12

the only problem with 'gay' is hiding it, so I would be very concerned if he were parading a family and as hiding a double gay life, but not at all concerned that he was gay IYSWIM.

Forget gay it's deception that would be the problem in that case.

barnstaple · 29/05/2008 12:13

I used to know someone who used to work for Prezza and she was running after Gordon. Long time ago though. No rumours of gayness then. And it isn't relevant. Matthew Parris for PM!!

Pan · 29/05/2008 12:16

it all seems VERY deliberate, doen't it?
