serialised in the times, quoted on the news, columnist inches filled with it and argghhh just managed to hit the off button before she reads it out on R4

she must have right good publicist and imo a real brass neck...

But that's not admirable, why not be proud of your heritage.

See The Zutons, as an example. Many more.

TigerFeet · 19/05/2008 12:52

I don't think its admirable either, hence the snob comment. All my extended family are scousers whereas my siblings and I are not. We stick out at family gatherings and we've been called posh and stuck up (not by family but by others) for not having the accent.

Wonder if Cherie's dc's feel the same?

Well they have done better culturally than that skinny one from girls aloud.

DeeRiguer · 19/05/2008 13:53

i was under impression she came from single mum no money family even though dad was tony booth...for what it matters

i think she has made herself difficult to like and am not sorry about having an opinion, are we only allowed to comment on prams or tinned goods?

if interviewing her i would ask:

  1. she enjoyed and reaped the benefits of a good education sponsored by the state...
why then is it a good thing to deny this to others and further deprive equality of opportunity to those in similar starting position in life...?

infact scrub that, she's had so much publicity i wouldnt bother

yes there was a piccie of her and a commentary that she had been unfaithful to two partners before meeting tony and she conceived Leo at balmoral?! I think she thinks people give a fXXX. Some Judge or other has told her to stand down as she has brought the profession into ill-repute.

rebelmum1 · 19/05/2008 14:01

I think she's more interested in her own publicity and how to make money ... not much to admire there

rebelmum1 · 19/05/2008 14:01

personally I'd prefer to talk about a shitty nappy

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:02

I think she sounded great on WH last week. Didn;t get at all why she weas supposed to be ashamed of making money.

First WH is up in arms about unfair pay and women not making it in the top flight and then it tries to guilt trip a woman who has succeeded spectaculalry by anyones standards - it's all a bit closet misogynous to me.

Bridie3 · 19/05/2008 14:02

I want to like her, too. In fact some lawyer friends who knew her through work said she was nice.

But she's got no class. Which isn't to do with class, if you see what I mean. It's about knowing when to keep quiet and how to be dignified. Nothing is as important for middle-aged women as dignity.

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:03

Didn't get all why she was supposed to..

Bridie3 · 19/05/2008 14:03

She should be ashamed of wanting to make money through her husband's previous job of prime minister, which is not supposed to be something spouses use to line their pockets.

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:04

I think she was spectacualy dignified.

Just what was she supposed to 'keep quiet' about?

Bridie3 · 19/05/2008 14:05

Her sex life, for starters.

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:08

She is making mioney from her autobiography, which just happend to include a period as prime ministers wife. Not so long ago there was a piece on WH about how nobosy knew much about the life of a PM's wife and there was a book out about a few of them - they loved the idea then.

Here we have a successful, clever woman telling her story in her own words and she is being villigfied for it. Shocking

DeeRiguer · 19/05/2008 14:10

monkeybird
maybe she should have kept quiet about the private life she wanted to keep private when it wasnt for sale
the mmr thing for one...they refused to answer due to privacy and now it she deems it okay as part of her book

she is successful professional woman she surely doesnt need to sell details of private life for profit

dignity, a lack thereof

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:10

Hang on, women are not supposed to line their pockets with their husbands previous job...does that include just general gifts too?

direct me to the rule book please?

Her story in No10 is part of history, a history ussually written about by men or ignored completely.

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 19/05/2008 14:14

monkey trousers but nobody would give a shit about her life story if it didn't include her time as the wife of a prime minister, what point are you missing here?

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:15

She doesn't need the money.

Yes, she should have said that he child had MMR, but she/they didnt when in office. I dont know why - I would have personally preferred that they had as it would have helped the hysteria calm itself. Y

She is still entitled to write her own autobiogeraphy. She is a historical figure and her persective is an interesting one.

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 19/05/2008 14:15

You are either her or part of her PR team. We all know how much mumsnet is in the news these days.

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:17

People were very interested in her life story, she is the daughter of a british icon, a very successful business woman - make no mistake that she would have a high profile if she were married to Blair or not - as she is that just makes her even more interesting a woman.

She has led a fascinating life and being wife to PM is all part of it - not only it.

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:18

lol

yes, a Blair sleeper cell on MN!

This is my moment...

Monkeytrousers · 19/05/2008 14:19

I just like liking women more than like disliking them

DeeRiguer · 19/05/2008 14:20

i would say that its dignified to keep some aspects of your life private thats all
and
that was what their (her n tony's) stance was when they were in no:10, before they got their grubby hands on publisher advances etc...

its called cashing in
there is of course no rule against it but it doesnt leave you with much dignity, or public respect imho

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 19/05/2008 14:21

Of course she is entitled to write her autobiography. People who have led no life at all (well all of 20 years, 16 of which were spent as a child) write their autobiographies so of course Mrs Blair has a lot more to write about, and a lot of interesting things to say. That point is conceded, Monkeytrousers.

But now she has written her autobiography, we are entitled to comment on it and it seems to me incrdeible that a successful, intelligent woman such as herself, who has met so many of the movers and shakers of this world, and who has had such a glittering career as she has had, feels the need to fill us in on gory little details such as her son's conception.

Would any of you like to hear the details of my children's conceptions? hang on, I have a video somewhere....
