I read this yesterday. it's all so bizarre. The man is clearly not mentally right. Not that that by any means excuses what he has done.

MascaraOHara · 09/05/2008 16:23

I heard snippets on a radio report (not read articale yet) it's just so bizarre, hard to get my head round.. and he seems to be being so open about it all.

sophiewd · 09/05/2008 16:30

DH says He is either truly insane or going for an insanity plea in court.

Tortington · 09/05/2008 16:31

meglamania

how apealling and exciting this must seem to someone who needs to be at the centre of the universe?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 09/05/2008 16:36

Urghh

Vile man, he knew what he was doing was wrong, but went ahead and did it anyway.

BouncingTurtle · 09/05/2008 16:41

Total nutjob. Hope they lock him in a very small, dark box for a very long time...

MascaraOHara · 09/05/2008 17:05

just made a cuppa and read throught that article.. I'm speechless. so many questions.

beaniesteve · 09/05/2008 17:06

I can't see how an insanity plea would hold up in court given that he has said he knew he was doing wrong.

mybrainaches · 09/05/2008 17:09

Not opened the link, but on the news it said he was going to plead insanity, and in the next breath he said he always knew what he was doing was wrong, is that not a total contradiction?

mybrainaches · 09/05/2008 17:09

x posts

cocolepew · 09/05/2008 17:10

He has said that he has known for years that he was insane.. Maybe I've got it wrong but if you're really insane do you not think what you are doing is normal. You can't actually say 'oh yes I'm insane' if you are. IYKWIM!

edam · 09/05/2008 17:10

Chilling. He clearly thinks he can somehow justify what he did. A real monster.

MascaraOHara · 09/05/2008 17:10

the articale reads like he knew exactly what he was doing.. and quite frankly, he must have to have kept up the facade for so long.

Cusartdo is right - he does sound like a meglamaniac.

also sounds like he had a thing for his mother although article might have just made it sound like that iykwim.

Joash · 09/05/2008 17:11

Vile, insignificant little man with an obvious need for power over those weaker than him.

mybrainaches · 09/05/2008 17:11

Yes I think that is right, insane people dont know they are insane.

beaniesteve · 09/05/2008 17:13

Also - he says he didn't abuse his daughter as a child, yet I can see no reason why she would, after 24 years of imprisonment, forced incest and rape, add a lie like that to the whole thing.

wheresthehamster · 09/05/2008 17:15

There's no remorse at all. He took his child's life away. The dungeon children haven't even had one yet. Bastard. I hope he get what he deserves from other inmates.

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 09/05/2008 17:15

i don't think he's insane, just evil, egotistic and selfish to abnormal levels. But not insane, no.

Madlentileater · 09/05/2008 17:29

This fits with what I read earlier, that Elisabeth had run away from home twice and been returned by the authorities- surely this raises questions about Austria's CP laws/practices- he sees himself as supreme head of the famil, and so do the authorities. Let's hope they learn a lesson from this.

suedonim · 09/05/2008 17:37

That is so chilling. He doesn't seem mad to me; rather, he's very much in control.

Rocky12 · 09/05/2008 17:46

Lets not try and excuse his behaviour by saying he is insane.

He is an evil man who deserves to be locked up for the rest of his life.

Apparently he says he is being 'picked' on by other prisoners......

I also cannot believe that his wife didnt know for 25 years!!! What on earth did she think he was doing in the basement.

suedonim · 09/05/2008 17:50

And have you read the linked article? What a strange place.

Judy1234 · 09/05/2008 17:51

It's always hard to know who is bad or mad. This shows the important of early experiences and how we treat our children.

flubdub · 09/05/2008 20:06

I know its nothing to do with the situation really, but, I was wondering, what will happen to the house now? Will the cellar be destroyed? Or the whole house? Or will it be left to sell? Nobody would want to live there, surely?

I think he owes about 2.8m euros on various mortages so pretty soon the banks will forclose unless his business continues to generate cash and then there will be 3 inside and 3 outside chidlren, a grand mother and mother all homeless plus they seem to be personally liable for their therapy bills which are already £50,000 I think. You might have thought the Austrian NHS would pay
