Boris or Ken - ramblings of a undecided voter - please help

I want to vote for Ken (despite him being the labour candidate) again as I think he has worked hard to give London a modern identity and increase tourism, promoting London with good advertising and events.

Why should Boris the Buffoon ride his coat tails and be given all Kens good work to flag wave as his own? Crime, Environment, Housing, Greenbelt etc, obviously whoever is chosen will do their best for London - its all hot air to win votes, these type of changes will be made by whoever is London Mayor.

I feel I voted Ken in with gusto a few years ago on a wave of London Pride (not the beer) and that I should give him the job again. He's fearless of Government and will not be dictated to unlike ......

opinions please

Is it just me who noticed the National Front??

pinkteddy · 29/04/2008 23:42

smallwhite cat at 22:38 'but there is no such monopoly any more. You are fighting a war long since over. If anything, such a background is an obstacle to achieving power in public life - see the tedious class hatreds being paraded on this thread. '

How come then only 7 per cent of the population go to private schools and yet independent schools still take nearly 50 per cent of available places at Oxbridge?? And then I quote 'it's a short hop, skip and a jump into the heart of the British establishment.' If you want statistics see attached its the clever way to power

MinkyBorage · 29/04/2008 23:43

Brian, with Ken as second choice.

elkiedee · 29/04/2008 23:44

No, sushi, it's not. But I think they're only standing one candidate in one area.

MrsThierryHenry · 29/04/2008 23:47

I have no idea who I'll vote for but I'd better decide soon!

Ken is a willy-waving self-promoting idiot who can't control his emotions and gets into silly fights and scrapes with people. Imagine what he's like to work with - just the same, according to people I know who've worked for him. He has done some good things, though, but if he weren't such an egocentric child he'd be much more effective.

Boris? Pah! (that's about all he deserves).

Don't know enough about Brian.

There's no real choice, is there? I mean, literally no-once decent to choose from. Flippin 'eck - what have we Londoners done to deserve this?

MrsThierryHenry · 29/04/2008 23:47

d'oh! I meant 'no-one'!

sushistar · 29/04/2008 23:52

One candidate in MY area!! How DARE they? How RUDE!! I am hoping one of the racist little fleas knocks on my door so I can give them a piece of my mind.

I already gave the Tory who came a roasting, he wasn't even from London, he'd been shipped in from the home counties I think.

orangina · 30/04/2008 09:53

sushistar, i had supper with my cousin last night who said he was voting for boris 1st and the BNP 2nd !!!!! I thought he was taking the piss, but he's not ...

Boris all the way IMHO.

Ken has made my council tax rocket in the 8 years I've live in Southwark and he wants to charge £25 for a bigger car to drive in the c-charge from October - has to be stopped!!

Don't have a 2nd choice option though, they're all as bad as each other.

yes hanaflower, totally shocking. really truly thought he was just taking the piss, trying to get a rise out of me. Which may have been a secondary thing, but he's definitely voting like that (I feel wierd just knowing someone who will have voted bnp, let alone being related to them and quite close in other non political ways....!)

talilac · 30/04/2008 16:50

Brian, 2nd choice Ken.

Its a tough call, because I don't trust Ken. But I think Boris would be an absolute disaster.

talilac · 30/04/2008 16:56

This is what made me decide to vote for Brian:"We will press ahead with introducing ?tag and beacon? technology which enables drivers to have the charge deducted from a smartcard (could be Oyster) in a sensor on their windscreens"

No more fines for forgetting to pay! I never do, but DH is rotten at remembering and considering we're on a budget its an absolute killer.

sushistar · 30/04/2008 19:41

Shame Orangina, it's hard to know what to say sometimes isn't it? Sometimes if I come accross someone who's views are really outrageous - like voting BNP/National Front - I am at such a loss that someone could be so dumb that I am not very good at knowing how to challenge them!

1dilemma · 01/05/2008 02:15

Surprised how few on here seem to care about Kens lying and corruption!

PLEASE DONT VOTE FOR BORIS,HE IS A RACIST BUMBLING TORY TWAT...iam genuinly scared for londons future if he does get in...

TheBlonde · 01/05/2008 07:50

Vote Boris if you'd like to see taxes and corruption reduced

Vote Ken if you want continued corruption

Vote Boris

pooka · 01/05/2008 11:12

vote ken

Izzywhizzy · 01/05/2008 11:17

I'll be voting Ken for Mayor and I'll be using my Londonwide Assembley vote for the Green party.

Even Boris' chums on the Torygraph think he'll be a disaster for London. see here

orangina · 01/05/2008 11:49

Ok, feeling slightly thick, but wondering about voting tactically. 1st choice should really be ken or boris, as the others don't stand a chance, right? So is there any point in putting someone else as 2nd choice? Like Sian? Or would it be more tactical to put Sian first, and then either dumb or dumber in 2nd, to push them through the 2nd round?
[feeling stupid emoticon]

Izzywhizzy · 01/05/2008 11:54

Orangina- do you mean protest vote rather than tactical vote?

It's true that if you don't put Boris or Ken down for at least one of your choices, your votes are unlikely to count towards the final result. However, if you want to do some kind of protest vote, you could put one of the 8 candidates who are unlikely to win down as your first vote and then put either Ken or Boris down as your second.

orangina · 01/05/2008 11:57

I don't really know (thick emoticon again)... I just feel v strongly that I don't want Ken in again, so will either do Boris (augh!) and Sian, or Brian and Sian, but that feels pointless, so feel Boris will have to get a vote somewhere.
Sigh. I'm finding this all rather depressing actually....

jgeorge · 01/05/2008 12:05

Have a look at Sian Berry for the Green Party. She's young, female (obviously!) and really switched on. I think it would be great to make London a greener city and while the other main candidates have got some green policies, I reckon they are paying lip service to the environment. She'll be a breath of fresh air!
