This is appalling. A school photographer offered class photo options with SEN children removed. The kids and parents involved must feel so hurt.

Sirzy · 28/03/2024 17:17

That’s horrendous

craigth162 · 28/03/2024 17:17

As a parent of a kid with complex needs id be devastated

sprigatito · 28/03/2024 17:17

Is there a source for this? Where did it happen?

Fluffyblobs · 28/03/2024 17:17

??? Which school was this!

BingoMarieHeeler · 28/03/2024 17:18

Wow I actually gasped reading that. How awful!

It's literally in the OP.

Appalling. My son is autistic…

@sprigatito and @Fluffyblobs are you really that lazy?

Notonthestairs · 28/03/2024 17:20

Awful story.

But I honestly can't imagine any of the parents in my child's class opting for such a photo.

mynameiscalypso · 28/03/2024 17:20

On the app, there's no link to a story or any details about the source or the school

MoveItAnLo · 28/03/2024 17:20

This is absolutely shocking.

I'm just lost for words.

How heartbreaking for those children and their families.

That is absolutely jaw-dropping. How devastating for those children and their families AngrySad

Saucery · 28/03/2024 17:21

I’m not surprised it was Tempest, they are awful and some of their photographers make no adjustments for SEN children whatsoever. I’m glad the school stood by the parents.

Sirzy · 28/03/2024 17:21

As the parent of a child with complex needs who works in a mainstream school with children with complex needs it makes me a combination of angry and sad. The poor parents made to feel their children aren’t good enough.

shocking from the photographer involved.

It shouldn't even be an option!!

Irisginger · 28/03/2024 17:21

I imagine there will be some MN cognitive dissonance on this. It's good that people see this as horrendous. However, there are regularly threads/posts here suggesting that SEND pupils ought to be removed permanently from mainstream classrooms because of their malign influence on 'normal children'.

You'd be surprised how much unsubstantiated crap gets posted on online forums. Ain't nobody got time to google all of it.

Agreed. Nothing - no school name, no source - until someone else links the BBC further down.

Mumofteenandtween · 28/03/2024 17:24

I don’t understand how this happened. The school are saying that it wasn’t them. But surely the teacher noticed when the class was being split up? Or is the school one with a specific unit for complex needs and so they took one photo of Mrs Jackson’s class 3J and then took another photo of all of Year 3 which includes the Year 3 kids in the unit? It just seems such an awful thing to do which makes me think that I am missing something.

vanillawaffle · 28/03/2024 17:24

The only way I could see this happening is if in fact there were 3 options and the photographer thought there were two groups of kids in the year so took one of each group separately and one of the year.

This doesn't seem to be the case as it sounds like TWO options were available. So someone needs to be investigated by the police for hate crime.

I have to sort of agree. For this to be an option, there must have been requests in the past for the sections with certain children in to be removed. And for those to be removed it suggests that they have been photographed separately on purpose.

Sirzy · 28/03/2024 17:27

The way a lot of photos are done now the children are photographed in smaller groups and then those groups are put together to make one photo so it would be easy to group certain children together and then leave out that group.
