Is Labour now finished as a united party ?

The cracks in Labour have been getting wider by the day.
George Galloway has won the Rochdale by-election, so is this a sign of more splits to come?
Mr Galloway says he has 60 Candidates ready to stand in the forthcoming General Election.
Can his Workers Party of Great Britain steal enough votes off Labour to give them a real headache?
Or is George deluding himself?

I’ve never been a fan of George Galloway but I think he made a good point last night when he said Sunak and Starmer were 2 cheeks of the same backside and they’ve been well and truly spanked tonight.

Labour divided? I think Keir Starmer has done a good job of uniting the party. It's the Conservative Party that is divided, to the extent I believe they will splinter after the next election.

The Conservatives are so divided that they have had five leaders since 2016 and are now thinking of getting rid of Sunak.

Labour are positively sane. Truss back anyone??

Labour didn't have an endorsed candidate for this by-election in the end and so didn't campaign in it - which was all a bit of a debacle and should have been dealt with better, but it's absolutely typical Galloway bullshit to claim victory over a party that didn't actually compete.

This is my instinct. I'll be keen to hear the political analysis, and very interested if we see any by-elections with less odd circumstances surrounding them!

I’m not sure of divided is the right word, I think actual Mp’s are facing some quite disturbing pressure over Gaza and it’s distorting politics in the UK. I think in some constituencies there is a good chance they will struggle against Galloway’s party.

But I think there are also a lot of people who will be voting on domestic issues elsewhere with Gaza not figuring at all. (Yougovs poll said 65% said they either didn’t know or neither when asked whether they sympathised with Israelis or Palestinians so thats’s the majority of people).

It’s just in incredibly difficult political landscape for Labour.

Galloway won because Labour pulled out for reasons that have been very well documented. His new party won’t win a single other seat.

Galloway is an extremist and nothing to do with Labour.

Labour people are pretty unified in their loathing of him.

There won't be any splitting as as a result.

He's a sideshow and will probably lose the seat at the general election.

If Galloway's party won all of those 60 seats (they won't win any of them) Labour would still have a significant majority.

Do we know if Galloway knows what a woman is?

I just don’t want Galloway anywhere near politics full stop. He knows what a woman is but he doesn’t care if they get raped. He’s a prick.

Rochdale deserves better, first Cyril Smith (abuser, found out after his death), then Simon Danczuk (explicit messages to a teenager), and now George Galloway (anti-semitic comments and appears to treat women almost as badly as Boris Johnson).

Hopefully a decent human being will become their MP at the general election.

Turnout was only 40% compared to 60% in 2019. Not sure he’ll survive November.

Galloway is delusional and will be kicked out at the GE.

Barring the selection process for Rochdale, Labour is the most united and focused for a long while. Starmer has done a sterling job.

If it’s United then why many of his members have been leaving and were going to vote against starmers decision regarding SNPs request last week?

Compared to the Tories they are remarkably united. I'm beginning to think each Conservative MP is a separate faction.

No I don’t!

Anyone who thinks George Galloway can have any effect on Labour is bonkers. He only won because Labour withdrew support for their candidate. He’ll be gone by the next election thank god.

Labour should organise a LGBTQ pride in Rochdale … so we can see the ideological cohesion and the inclusiveness in action

Labour is a fragmented mess of pressure groups, most of them totally disconnected or dgaf about what Labour should be : the party of British workers

Presumably you don't follow politics at all, OP?

Labour are more united than 2/3 years ago. Galloway is nothing to do with Labour, he's just an populist who has been running various extremist groups for years. He doesn't really have any firm beliefs, he just jumps onto whatever cause is popular with a disenfranchised group of the electorate.

He only won due to some unusual circumstances. He'll be gone in a year.

Some Tory MPs are in more than faction that only they are in, and frequently argue with themselves in the same sentence.

If you're going to make a protest vote, this was the perfect one.
Slightly looney candidate, disgraced Labour candidate, GE before the end of the year.
Galloway is an arse but he knows exactly what his plan is.

Galloway got lucky Labour didn’t field a candidate, that’s it. He’s never not been deluded.

His party will have zero impact on Labour. The only reason there’s any attention at all to it is because of the profile of its leader. Same as the Alba party with Salmond.
