Galeforcewindatmywindow · 26/02/2024 21:18

Can an adult who got his very under age gf pregnant foster dc way down the line?. The news article is leaving a bitter taste tbh...
Would such a man be suitable?. Surely not?

OP posts:

She’s been looking at too many American TikTok/Insta pages. It’s an utter fantasy. Fostering regulations in this country are much stricter, and SS would take a pretty dim view of a compulsion to have more and more babies whilst neglecting your older children.

Zyq · 26/02/2024 23:36

I suspect once they discover they can't put foster children on TV the whole idea will die the death.

GoldenMeadow · 26/02/2024 23:46

As if she will ever have an empty nest!

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 26/02/2024 23:52

The radfords wouldn't be approved, it'll just be one of them fake publicity stunts for their TV show they do like moving to USA, or buying a plot of land to build on.

MariaLuna · 27/02/2024 00:03

She says she is considering adoption or fostering so she doesn't have an 'empty nest

What, with 22 kids??! There'll be plenty grandkids too I imagine.

whatsitcalledwhen · 27/02/2024 00:25

She says she is considering adoption or fostering so she doesn't have an 'empty nest

A 'her' centred reason for wanting to foster, rather than a child centred one.
A life in the public eye, frequently selling stories about family updates.

No chance they be approved.

LoudSnoringDog · 27/02/2024 00:32

Cannot stand these people and the tv channel for encouraging their nonsense

Wishitsnows · 27/02/2024 00:33

No way should the be able to foster. They can’t even pretend that it was different back then. He would have been considered a nonce getting a 13 year old pregnant at 18. Plus they can’t use a child for more tv fodder to make money.

PhoenixStarbeamer · 27/02/2024 01:03

sixnearlyseven · 26/02/2024 21:30

If this is about the Radfords they were 13 and 17 when they conceived, so neither was adult but one still underage.

I really like their family but jesus that sounds so wrong.

GreenWheat · 27/02/2024 03:14

On the list of reasons why there isn't a cat's chance in hell these ridiculous people would ever get approval to foster, the statutory rape is pretty far down. Mainly, it would be that people who sell their children's privacy are utterly unsuitable to care for those from a troubled past.

We’re just slutty and inappropriate and appalling, aren’t we?

Well I imagine some are......that's how society works.

But the adoption and fostering laws are extremely strict in the UK. We can't essentially buy a child......money doesn't come into it. We don't have baby brokers here.......or sites for rehoming unwanted adopted children.

So it's extremely hard to Foster or adopt, you have to be clean as a whistle. Obviously the system doesn't get it right every time but the process at least weeds out the Obviously dodgy people.

Tiredalwaystired · 27/02/2024 06:48

Knowing the way the media works, they probably asked her what she would do when her youngest was grown and she made a flippant “oooh I don’t know, I’d probably have to adopt or something, ha ha”.

Cue journalist rubbing his hands at an angle for the story.

She probably has no such plans and you’re all getting your knickers in a twist over something that even she doesn’t believe will happen.

Koulibiak · 26/02/2024 23:03

Not very familiar with the Radfords, but I would venture a guess that she’s trying to fill a void left by her own chaotic childhood. Evidently all the children, dogs, grandchildren etc haven’t worked. Perhaps counselling might help.

This is not a criticism, I think there’s trauma behind all this.

I haven’t watched any of their TV output. But I think I remember reading that both the mother and father were adopted 🤔

it wouldn’t be such a surprise if there were unfulfilled needs from their childhood and or trauma, I suppose 🤷‍♀️ I just can’t help but feel bad for everyone involved (particularly their children!)

Queenconsult · 27/02/2024 07:12

Of course they’d be able to

you don’t seem to understand how desperate many LAs are for foster carers!

They are absolutely NOT desperate to the point where they don't carry out proper assessments. This couple would not pass. They clearly have issues around attachment, boundaries and having children to meet their own emotional needs. This would be a cut and dried no.

Absolutely this.

It's just another storyline.

I went based off the OPs specific question

so yes, if their only ‘crime’ was having a child young with no police involvement they would most likely be approved

One of the foster carers locally to me had a 20 year class A drug habit and was still approved after being clear for a while.

Ok, but the OP is speaking about a specific family in the public eye.

It’s just a very different culture to fostering and adoption in this country. Particularly with regards to social media.

How on earth have you jumped to that? @MoreLidlThanWaitrose was referring to the fact that the regulations around fostering and adoption in the UK are vastly different to those in the US. They did not say anything that was an attack on individual Americans.

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/02/2024 07:22

Desperate or not, there are huge issues placing a vulnerable child with a high profile family who effectively make a living from selling their family life. Where I am they wouldn’t be approved.

justonemorebikkie · 27/02/2024 03:39

Emotionally, yes. Physically, probably to a degree.

Kalevala · 27/02/2024 07:25

How long ago was the pregnancy? I have relatives who were 15 and 19, normal relationship, married when she turned 16. This was in the late sixties though when there wasn't such a maturity gap between mid and late teens.
