and his family of course. How sad. Such great films as The English Patient and he was just about to start filming a full series of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency.

How sad. I loved Truly, Madly, Deeply.

lilibet · 18/03/2008 14:04

We watched him on The Culture Show on Saturday, 54 is incredibly young.

Doesn't his son write Robin Hood?

Aitch · 18/03/2008 14:05

oh dear, that's awful.

mumemma · 18/03/2008 14:09

I loved all his films. Truly special. How very very sad.

Bobbiewickham · 18/03/2008 15:04

I'm pretty sad too, I'm in the middle of writing an essay about his radio play, Cigarettes and Chocolate.

He was a wonderful writer.

I have just heard this too - and am really shocked. Apparently, it was complications (haemorrhage) following routine surgery. I think the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency starts next week on tv.

Moomin · 18/03/2008 16:05

Gosh how sad. Very talented man

wheelsonthebus · 18/03/2008 16:40

pruners, i agree; the suddeness of death when young in that film was amazingly captured - v v emotional and raw - and seems weird to think about now in light of Minghella's life horribly cut short.

What a loss!

And so suddenly, too.

lackaDAISYcal · 18/03/2008 17:12

such sad and unexpected news. I was a huge fan of his.

funnyhaha · 18/03/2008 17:13

Just heard this too
No 1 ladies detective agency is starting on BBC over easter.

mumemma · 18/03/2008 17:18

Loved Truly Madly Deeply too - great shots of the South Bank and Juliet Stevenson is brilliant.

He had an operation last week to remove a lump on his neck and the op went fine but then he had an unexpected, and fatal, haemorrhage this morning. What a shock for his family.

What dreadful news.

I adore Truly Madly Deeply. I first watched the film when I was a teenager and hadn't experienced love (apart from my friends and family iyswim) yet, but still found the film gut renching and so emotionally raw. I still do, and it gets worse as I get older.

What a loss.

TheDuchyEggOfNorksBride · 18/03/2008 19:41

Good lord. I've been out and about all day and only just seen this. A loss all round.

  1. Eek.

Very sad this. A talented man.
