round about the time i joined mn or after i cant remember there was an article oin the times and it mentioned soupdragon and i think www and or countessdracula all i thought was they posted it made it sound er friendly

it meant that i permanently associate nthem with each other

now someone tell me they werent all in that article lol

was aboput 4 yuears ago

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 09:07

I don't recall ever having namechecks and character definitions in the media before ... I must be honest in that I did find them quite interesting, another MNer's perception of those particular characters, because we all get different facets of personalities dependent on the threads we encounter

What used to happen was that posters were quoted for their particular comments which is different .. you saw their sense of humour and hence a reflection back to mumsnet .. it wasn't an 'elite grouping' though

keepcalmandcarryon · 16/03/2008 09:07

I'm in Somerset too - Wincanton is getting nicer - lovely wine merchant .

ZippiBabes · 16/03/2008 09:09

ll

have a hug hunni

it is chip paper by now

except mn loves tyo be somewhat self analytical

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 09:11

I remember that zippi!

Really I think it was just to give some examples of actual posters to take away from the vagueness of a 'group of mummies' which sounds a bit unpromising

And I hung around the Guardian talkboards for ages looking for Liberati...

'the journo' is a regular lurker

(Have seen the actual article now - love the pic of Justine wiping a nose!)

I love the book Cranford - it is an utter delight. I read it a few weeks ago. Everyone should read it.

I don't agree the mumsnet community can be equated to the Cranford ladies. Mumsnet thrives on soul-bearing and in Cranford things are said behind closed doors. Now I will read the thread.....

messagedeleted · 16/03/2008 09:14

ah

am feelign feral today

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 09:15

look LL everything you have done for MN in terms of 'over and above' and the way you post plonks you firmly, from virtually the get-go, in the alpha / elite .. posters worthy of attention .. in my psyche

And that's all I can talk about isn't it? My personal opinion. That is what counts: how I perceive characters, what attributes I imbue them with based on their actions and thoughts.

I respect and admire and enjoy you. You are worthy of my attention. As are all your fellow 'meejah-stars', and I know it wasn't like you went out and solicited fame.

I feel really repetitive, I don't want people to misunderstand: it is the seeming 'official' sanction of particular posters that has been building over the last few months that I don't feel / believe is the nature of this democratic melting-pot. It changes the 'feeling' of the boards

ruty · 16/03/2008 09:16

I still think of Aitch and LL as newbies Still, they post more, and more usefully, than I do.

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 09:17

Did you hear the dramatic boom in the 'It changes the nature of the boards' .. you could hear a pin-drop in the audience, you really could .. and an audible gasp

I never went to Wincanton - My American Wincanton-resident ex-boyfriens used to travel up to Bath to see me.

He used to have a really good job and then went a bit mental and took to sleeping in the garden of a 21 year old ( mine)

I'df also just like to make it clear that it was my house front garden he slept in, not my lady front garden

As for the article, I couoldn't give a bollocks who is mentioned, although obviusly I am devestated that me sparking wit didn;t get a mention

I do remember reading an article where certain posters were mentioned, but more in line of "look at the variety of pseudonyms used" and several were given as examples. However, it did make those nicknames more obvious on the boards and I suppose my attention was drawn to their posts more than to others.

I do think that, by naming names, as it were, newbies will spot posts by those named and, possibly, give their opinions more weight/attention. Which does make the boards a bit uneven.

To even things out, all those named will now have to go and permanently change their names to something quite anonymous .

Blandmum · 16/03/2008 09:49

I very much doubt that the newbies would remember the name, would they?

Even as an oldie I don't know if I can still remember all 5, but that could be my senility talking

soapbox · 16/03/2008 09:53

LOL MB - I was just going through exactly the same thought process - I could remember 4 of the names and not the 5th - so had to open the article up to look!

Senility here I come

Blandmum · 16/03/2008 09:54

We'll stroll to the day Centre together, looking confused all the way!

Freckle · 16/03/2008 09:54

OK, own up. Which one couldn't you remember?? Let's see if it's the same as me - as I can only remember 4 too! Mind you, I didn't really read much of that section of the article.

ZippiBabes · 16/03/2008 09:55
