wife in tribute to loving husband

Must be awful to deal with the affairs at the same time as greiving for him and dealing with the children too

and having it trawled through the papers. I hope the media DO leave her in peace

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 14:24

This has pissed me off big time. If it turns out the paper was going to expose an affair and that is why he killed himself I think the paper should be closed down.

Someone has died FFS.

Poor poor wife and family.

muppetgirl · 13/03/2008 14:26

Poor poor woman. Her live has been blown apart and will never be the same. This time last week she had a husband, 3 children and a normal humdum life. Now look...

My thoughts are with her and her family x

"Publicist Max Clifford confirmed he had recently received a phone call from a man with a Manchester accent alleging a "sensational" scandal involving a senior police officer.

But Mr Clifford said he did not know what the allegation was and received many such calls which came to nothing. "

SO WHY F~CKING SAY ANYTHING AT ALL

fryalot · 13/03/2008 14:27

Because he's Max Clifford

fordfiesta · 13/03/2008 14:30

sometimes i think myself luckly that whilst i dont have much my life is happy and settled!
That poor woman and her family! i agree the papers if it is true nab should shoulder some responsibility!

theBOD · 13/03/2008 15:07

"If it turns out the paper was going to expose an affair and that is why he killed himself I think the paper should be closed down."

why?it's freedom of the press. the media didn't make him have an affair or tell him to kill himself. now if they wrongly reported him having an affair and the fall out lead to him killing himself i'd agree.

Miggsie · 13/03/2008 15:12

As someone who has worked with journalists over many years I can say that the journalists would cheerfully hound him to suicide and his wife into depression/nervous breakdown as long as they get a story.
Why would the story of a man having an affair be newsworthy? If they published a list of every bloke that had an affair, newspapers would be 500 pages long.
And most of the journalists who write for the paper would probably be listed there too.
I don't think people should make money out of other peoples misery this way

well the reason it is newsworthy is because he was a man in a position of authority who was playing away from home.now to me, i'd agree with most, that is not news at all and i'd have no interest in it.unfortunately the public at large d seem to take an interest in it so papers print it because it will shift copies.if it didn't sell then they wouldn't print it.
i'd assume you do not buy any newspapers or watch sky news, cnn, bbc news, itv news etc if you don't think people should profit from others misery as all news stations (bar ones run on a completely non profit and voluntary basis) profit from others misery.

expatinscotland · 13/03/2008 15:43

it has not been established yet, whether his death was a suicide.

very sad all around, however.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 16:13

Maybe if a paper was closed down they would think twice next time.

Freedom of the press my eye.

waffletrees · 13/03/2008 18:48

It is very sad that he felt he had no other options.
Can't imagine anyone pathetic enough would buy a newspaper because some police man was playing away. People need to start thinking before they buy some of these arse wipe papers. (Anyone else think it was the Mail on Sunday?)

theBOD · 13/03/2008 18:53

so what no paper can print a story if the protagonist threatens to top themself?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 18:55

I very much doubt he had any contact with them and said that.

theBOD · 13/03/2008 19:08

exactly so how is it the papers fault that he killed himself? they planned to run a story(what i assume to be true story,if not then yes hammer them), and the result of this was a man decided to kill himself. did they tell him to have an affair?did they tell him to then kill himself? it's tragic for the deceased and his family but how can you blame a newspaper for printing the truth?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 19:11

Why did they have to say they were going to run the story?

Of course they didn't tell him to have an affair! Nor did they tell him to kill himself.

You don't know it is the truth and FFS stop sticking up for the press. A man has died because of something they threatened to do!

theBOD · 13/03/2008 19:16

as i've said all along if they were lying/running an untrue story then yes hang them from the nearest tree. my point was if it is true how could you blame a paper for printing or saying they were going to print something that was true? and once again if it is true the man hasn't died because of something they have done.he has died because of decisions he took.namely to have an affair and then take his own life because he could not take the shame of being caught out.

DrNortherner · 13/03/2008 19:20

"A man has died because of something they threatened to do!"

No, a man killed himself because they were going to expose what he had done.

Cowardly imo.

I feel sorry for his wife, it is a tragic tragic story, but it really sounds like he was not the husband she thought. And now she will not get the answers from him she deserves.

theBOD · 13/03/2008 19:26

thank you.don't know how people can blame anyone but him.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 19:29

I know if he hadn't have had an affair, (if he has) there would be no story but if they hadn't threatened to run the story he wouldn't have died. Him having an affair didn't leave anyone dead. What the paper did, has.

Agree to disagree perhaps?

theBOD · 13/03/2008 19:32

i'll agree to disagree on this one.we are obviously at loggersheads and will get no where.have a good night.

DrNortherner · 13/03/2008 19:34

That arguemnt doesn't stand up Nabs, cause if he hadn't had teh affair the paper would have no story to run.

He wasn't Joe Bloggs doen the road, he was the top dog in the Manc police force. He knew hos affairs would be massive stories should he ever be found out tey he chose to do so.

I don't buy this arguement of trying to absolve him of any blame.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 13/03/2008 19:35

loggerheads sounds a bit strong.

We just both see it differently.

I hate the press and this has made me feel like they should take some responsibility.

soapbox · 13/03/2008 19:59

I don't feel much for his predicament to be honest - it sounds like he was rather free with his affections, and at the final analysis he chose to end his life rather than face up to what he had done (if he did indeed commit suicide).

OTOH I feel desperately sorry for his DW and DCs. Having to deal with his death as well as having to deal with the fact that he wasn't what he seemed to be to them.

I hope they can all find some peace amongst all of this unfolding story - but how teenage children ever get over this kind of thing, is beyond me
