Edam - I walk to the shops too. I have a combination of things. A couple of lightweight nylon bags that fold up really small that I keep permanently in my handbag. A backpack for medium-sized shops. Not a big one, more like a schoolbag type size so I don't look like an actual backpacker which would be embarrassing.
And my ultimate weapon is a fold up shopping trolley for big shops.
Obviously it embarrasses the children but what the hell. On clearance at the moment too, so a bargain.

I agree with Prettybird, why can't supermarkets give out recycled paper bags? Don't they do this in the US?

suedonim · 29/02/2008 16:57

Big drawback to paper bags, esp if you live in Scotland, is rain.

suedonim · 29/02/2008 17:04

PS Am fighting an overwhelming urge to purchase one of those trundlies beloved of the older generation!

sorry to go back a fair bit on this thread but hattrick you could take a defemation suit against the company for the security guard wrongly and publicly accussing you of taking goods and not paying for them.

prettybird · 03/03/2008 15:06

Suedonim - I liked using plastic bags and I live in Scotland!

prettybird · 03/03/2008 15:06
