I know this invites controversy and blame, but is it possible to share how much I hope the new search yields a location for her finally and she can be returned to her family.

They found Ben Needham 20 yrs later under what had been a building site at the time of his disappearance as far as I recall. Possibly a local or someone on their deathbed mentioned it, something like that. I think it might even have been his grandparents having the building work done

All very sad really that he was there under their noses the whole time

Ben Needham has been missing for around 30 years, he has never been found.

@TeaParty4Me It isnt him though. There is a retired Scotland Yard detective who did a credible investigation and documentary basically proving this man was not in the country at the time she disappeared.

Well if the German police think he is a suspect then presumably they have some alternative evidence.

For now I do hope they find her remains.

MsWhitworth · 22/05/2023 20:19

They didn’t find Ben Needham but didn’t they find a toy car that he had when he went missing? In the place where they thought be was.

The rough equivalent would be finding Madeline’s teddy bear or similar in this lake.

They won't find her teddy as Kate was holding it in all the TV interviews they did.

I wish for her family what they wish for themselves.

I have terrible facial recognition & generally a terrible memory these days, sadly there are a lot of sad cases where I don't recall them or wouldn't recognise them in a line up. But I will never forget her little face as long as I live.

Wishing peace to her family at another incredibly difficult time. Their resilience is incredible.

I agree with this. They have done wonders to keep their family together after such a huge loss and while undergoing such intense scrutiny and pressure. I pray they get some closure even though the outcome can never be happy after all
of this time.

Agh let's hope Peter Faulding doesn't come along

Like all the other amateur detectives with no access to the info that a current police officer would have. Fed up of all these bored people pretending they are more clever than anyone else.

Ben has never ever been found but I do vaguely remember hearing or reading something about a person being on their deathbed and had mentioned about Ben and that he was possibly killed by a digger near his grandparents house hence why the police believe he was killed in a tragic accident.

I hope they locate her remains. I wonder if they would consider emptying the reservoir at any point?

How? Why? There's a massive drought affecting Portugal - the environmental consequences of doing this would be immense, as you're talking about at least 42.75 million cubic meters/tonnes of water to chuck into the Atlantic, completely change the environment along the river, completely eradicate the current wildlife and further adding to diplomatic/political tensions between Portugal and Spain - after all, why would Spain, who have already abandoned the Albuferia Convention due to not having enough water for their own crops and population, share more water with Portugal if, to put it bluntly, they chucked a phenomenal amount away on the offchance of finding anything?

OK, OK stay calm. I hear you.... it was just a question.

AnAngelAtMyTableWithMe · 22/05/2023 21:11

like I would for any family I really hope they can finally have answers it must be horrible not knowing.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/05/2023 21:14

The unknown must be so incredibly painful.

BlusteryLake · 22/05/2023 21:23

I often think of the twins who were in the room when she was taken. It must be so hard knowing they were a hair's breadth from such a terrible situation.

123rainbow · 22/05/2023 21:23

There is no evidence that she was ever abducted from the apartment. Pat Brown, leading criminal profiler has provided good hints to what happened to Madaleine. The river being searched has been done at least twice before and nothing found.

I hope they get closure. I really do. But they shouldn't of left her in the apartment on her own with the twins while they were out wining and dining.

OneFrenchEgg · 22/05/2023 21:48

Please can we just try not to start up down a whodunnit on the parents, I know I can't dictate but I'd like to just have a chance if the thread standing in case of any updates we could be quietly pleased about - celebrate etc is the wrong word.

Oh please. What on earth is the point of saying that now?

The parents can’t change it.

Do you not think they have suffered enough?
