BBC News - Nicola Bulley: Partner describes perpetual hell over missing mum
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-64450243

Just been reading about this. How awful for her partner and children. Really hope she is found soon

well perhaps I've read quite a bit of Agatha Christie....

one possible reason for a person to fall perpendicular into the river leaving little trace on the edge is for something to have hit her head while she was standing. A rock, a ball, thrown by someone away from the scene, unintentionally or intentionally... The river then carried it away, leaving no trace at all.

Seriously?

@Singinghollybob
Yes
Seriously
No way she fell in river

TheUsualChaos · 03/02/2023 22:26

Looking at the photo of the river bank near the bench, it does look quite a drop and deep water. Perhaps she lost sight of the dog, thought it had gone in the water and went to look and she slipped in.

tashx · 03/02/2023 22:27

@TheUsualChaos
No the water is swallow
Police walking in it
She's a good swimmer

And not much to hit your head on either from the photos I've seeen...

Cosmos123 · 03/02/2023 22:35

I think she fell in and drowned.

No doubt her body will be found sometime soon.

MovingOnwardsandUpwards · 03/02/2023 22:51

Sadly I reckon the police, on talking to those closest to Nicola from the beginning, maybe suspected there was another more sinister scenario which is why they were so adamant from very early in in the investigation that they did not suspect a 3rd party or a 'crime' was involved despite there no signs of her falling into the river.

Of course they have had to search the river as she may well be in there anyway.

Her partner didn't seem to have any family members supporting him during his interview with the press. Maybe they were in the background, off camera? No emotion or appeal for her to get in touch if she's still out there either. He wasn't part of the family appeal with Nicola's family.

Not casting aspersions of course just all very odd. The police are making themselves look like bumbling plods for a reason I think,

Northernlurker · 03/02/2023 22:53

People don't just 'fall' in to water. We aren't skittles.
If drunk, if icy, if running then maybe or if the area is unfamiliar, it's dark or the weather greatly reduces visibility. None of these apply. You could well slip but if so you'll basically slide in right at the edge.

tashx · 03/02/2023 22:54

She's an intelligent woman who knows the area well
No way is she in the river

TheUsualChaos · 03/02/2023 23:06

None of it makes sense because we don't know what happened in those 10 minutes. But freak accidents do happen. Water doesn't have to be deep to drown. And it's a wide river with a deep channel further in. I suppose at this point I'm believing the theory that she drowned as other explanations are more disturbing. Those poor little girls 😔

mumyes · 03/02/2023 21:15

I hope this in no way upsets or offends anyone involved in the case, but is it possible that this is a strategy by the police to deliberately de-escalate the pressure on someone if he they did take her?

If they turn it into a manhunt, the person might panic...whilst if they say they think she fell in the river, that person may not panic, and it might buy the police time??

I've no idea if this is something the police would do (does anyone on here?).

This was my first thought this afternoon too. In fact I have thought this for a while with the Police saying they don't suspect any third party involvement

tashx · 03/02/2023 23:10

@VivaDixie
Yes
I believe they police know more than they letting on

Wow.

Don’t know what to say to that.

Have they broken ranks with the police?

Or are they “just” hugely (understandably) distraught and in denial?

TheUsualChaos · 03/02/2023 23:22

It's starting to venture into social media circus territory isn't it 😕

ilovesushi · 03/02/2023 23:29

The family are right. The police should explore every single avenue with urgency. I hope and pray she is found.

Eatentoomanyroses · 03/02/2023 18:58

The ‘expert’ on sky news seems to be doubting the police’s perspective. I was quite shocked he said all that.

Does anyone have a link to this?

northernlites · 03/02/2023 23:31

@User45378754 I’m with the family, there is a complete lack of evidence that she is in the water (or for any other scenario) and they have not been able to rule out the back lane that goes to Garstang Road as not enough CCTV/ dash cam so it’s still wide open

Yes, that’s what I don’t understand. I can imagine someone slipping and sliding down that bank, but not toppling over from standing unless hit by something. Her dog isn’t big enough to knock her over.

northernlites · 03/02/2023 23:35

I think if she’s gone in the river, the dog would have gone in after her, (willow was a regular in the water), however, the dog willow was not wet or muddy and no evidence of scramble in or out of river

Peverellshire · 03/02/2023 23:36

@northernlites someone local on the FB page says the river is practically a 'canal' anyway, so makes no sense at all.

I've said it before but the time before she went missing will be important context, hopefully the police are onto looking closely at that, the out of hours work meeting that needed childcare, etc, etc and a new mortgage secured on her house, that her father (?) I think, said she was very happy doubt, I believe. Plus more.

The new mortgage had nothing to do with her own house. She’s a mortgage advisor and had just secured a new mortgage for a client.

TheUsualChaos · 03/02/2023 23:43

What the police are saying to the public and what they are actually doing could be two very different things.

People do drown in seemingly "safe" looking places. Just because we can't imagine it happening, doesn't mean it can't have.

But also, that interview with her partner. It just makes me feel strange somehow. Probably he is in shock and trying not to break down.
