Sunak & the Seat belt

He's apologised for being filmed in a moving car without wearing his seatbelt.

Lancashire Police are currently investigating.

Just wondering if an apology will be enough and whether it will set a standard that will mean other passengers who might get pulled over, if they apologise for not wearing their seatbelt in the back of a car whether they may get the same treatment as Sunak will or has?

Also, why are there no penalty points for such an infringement of not wearing your seatbelt? Surely that's a no brainer.

Anyway...as you were.

Ha pretty much

Some must be missing party gate

@MarshaBradyo Any chance of you supplying a complete list of laws that it is ok for the Prime Minister to break?
Is it your view that it is ok for anyone to break those laws?

MarshaBradyo · 21/01/2023 06:46

No chance I’m taking it seriously enough to spend time on threads other than to agree with pp how ludicrous it is.

I look forward to these running to multiple threads as partygate did with same posters. Enjoy 😀

I quite agree @MarshaBradyo it is ludicrous that we have to put up with a Prime Minister who consistently thinks that the law does not apply to him.

I think it is more likely to serve as a reminder that our twice law breaking Prime Minister Sunak thinks that the law is for the little people and not for him.

450 people in Humberside (see report linked above) must have thought same as our PM so not just him

LlynTegid · 21/01/2023 07:13

The Prime Minister was someone who was doing some self-promotion and so had every chance to check he was wearing his seat belt before doing so. Not just check his tie was straight and hair neat and tidy.

Prime Ministers and those in government should set an example. Influence people.

What baffles me is the Prime Minister, Sunak has managed to surround himself by people so useless that they did not notice or say anything in editing the strange puff piece in the car about him not having a seatbelt on.

Its not like he was snapped by a photographer without a seatbelt on, he publicised his lawbreaking himself.

Did they share videos to the country publicising their lawbreaking as if it didn't matter?

User16458769 · 21/01/2023 07:26

It has managed to draw attention to the seatbelt law which judging by this thread many people don't know as they think the driver is responsible for people over 14 not wearing a seatbelt which they aren't. Many people not wearing one in the back probably thought they wouldn't get fined as it was the driver's responsibility.

@User16458769 are there any other laws you think the Prime Minister should raise awareness of by breaking them?
Was that what he was doing when he attended an illegal party?

What does everyone have against being rich at the moment ?
do you think our next prime minister is going to be scrabbling behind the sofa for his bus fare ?

It's not that he's rich... everyone in government is rich by my standards. It's that he's so rich that he has no concept of most people's lives...and he's running the country.
That video clip of him explaining that he has upper class friends and middle class friends, but no not working class. The disdain!

PP called it, yet another distraction.“

Rubbish. Yet another indication of the arrogant, clueless, rich person our current, temporary PM is.

Don’t be daft 😁

I’ve nothing against wealth per se. Most stupidly rich people who don’t have any understanding at all of the lives of millions of people who do have to scrabble down the sofa for bus fare. For that reason, they’re probably not the best people to be formulating policy that affects said scrabblers lives.

KnittedCardi · 21/01/2023 11:15

So he had been fined, and he has, as far as we know, accepted the fine, and acknowledged the error of his ways.

I do have a question though, and an assumption. I always thought that politicians and royals were, in certain circumstances, and for security reasons, not required to wear seatbelts. Yes, if they are driving themselves, or not on official business, but generally, when out and about on official engagements, they are exempt? Assuming Rishi was being driven by a policeman/security/ bodyguard, and had police outriders, I would have assumed he didn't need the belt??

Hmmph · 21/01/2023 11:33

My opinion of him has gone right down. I don't agree with his policies, but I had thought he was sensible.

I am older than him. I have worn a seatbelt in the car my whole life (I think that the first bit was before it was a legal requirement, but my parents enforced it). It's an automatic thing for me- I wouldn't walk down the street without shoes and I wouldn't travel in a car without the seatbelt. It's not something I would or could accidentally do. Clearly he's either made a conscious decision or he doesn't normally wear one. Which is stupid as he can die as easily as I can. Therefore he is not sensible.

beguilingeyes · 21/01/2023 18:29

Has anyone seen the latest video clip of him gesturing to a minion to open the car door for him? FFS.

Given he doesn't know how to fill up a car with petrol, perhaps he also doesn't know how to open a car door either?

What the hell?

First of all I can’t watch that video without cringing inside out. It’s delivered like a cbbc presenter! They’ve clearly thought they’d film it like this so he appears to be ‘just like us’ - except he’s not because the law doesn’t apply to him!

What was the person filming even thinking of? Let alone him ffs!

This ‘I’m above the law’ mentality continues.

. . . . and now I'm cringing at Sunak trying to get down with Zelensky in Dorset today by wearing jeans and that awful 'casual' zip up top and shirt buttons undone.

It's just embarrassing. First the car-to-camera 'soundbite', now the jeans and casual look to impress. I just can't bear it anymore. Cringe cringe cringe
