Sad lonely man? None of our business? Discuss?

Must say, it would be more believable if she were the blind partner

Exactly mosschops i bet FFJ are loving it - but the big issue for me is wont all this make things rather uncomfortable for Tony - personally think if Boris Johnson can be sacked for failing to disclose info then so should Blunkett - but i am also happy for DB to remain in his job so that FFJ can attract attention to this fact and give Tony another reason to squirm (sorry we at the Fantasy Yurt are not Tony fans and would like to see some one new at the top!)

I have no sympathy for Kimberly Fortier/Quinn - as far as I can tell, if she hadn't arbitrarily cut off all contact between Blunkett and his son back in August because she wanted to play happy families with her husband (a bit late for that methinks) he wouldn't be going to court at all. I think she's behaved despicably personally and used Blunkett as a sperm donor.

emkana · 04/12/2004 20:47

I couldn't agree with you more, aloha.
There's a wonderfully bitchy article about Kimberley in the Times today,

here

SueW · 04/12/2004 23:12

FFJ commented on it on our local radio station this week. The only bit I caught was something about how ironic this was.

TBH, I'm not surprised about the visa thing - how many of us don't know someone who has been in a position to help someone else out and hasn't done it? Even so far as providing a reference or asking someone how say a loan application is going? As long as the visa was properly issued and all the valid checks were made properly, I can't see him getting into any trouble of it.

However, someone told me this week - and I have missed most of the news - that some key points such as improper use of ministerial (i.e. company) vehicle and govt-issued train tickets - have been left out of the inquiry altogether. How does that happen? I know people who have been immediately dismissed from their posts for similar offences.

aloha · 05/12/2004 10:15

Ms Fortier certainly likes to get her pound of flesh (or millilitre of sperm) out of people, doesn't she! I see that despite being hospitalised for 'stress' and 'craving privacy' she's well enough to be on the phone to Dominic Lawson of the Sunday Telegraph and the head of the Blunkett inquiry in her tireless bid to destroy and discredit the man who is the father of her kids. Nice.

leglebegle · 05/12/2004 11:19

trouble is blunkett has such a holier than thou attitude about so many things the papers are gunning for him now. and i'll bet he's glad he's got an independent judiciary now that he can turn to, he's tried everything he can to demorolise it, he's constantly criticising it and trying to change it. still, nice to see it worked for him, maybe he'll shut up about lawyers now. on a more serious note, i do agree that he has every right to fight for his children.

aloha · 05/12/2004 11:27

I agree. I am also torn as I cannot stand his policies and holier than thou attitude....but I still think his children have the right to know who their father really is.

suedonim · 05/12/2004 14:44

Anyone else noticed the physical resemblance between Kimberley Fortier and Monica Lewinsky?? Wink

aloha · 05/12/2004 15:14

Well, that would have passed David Blunkett by completely!

JanH · 05/12/2004 18:15

Why does she have to stare so?

Interesting, quite illuminating piece by \link{http://politics.guardian.co.uk/homeaffairs/comment/0,11026,1366974,00.html\David Aaronovitch} - esp the bit about Mr Quinn's possible motivation. (Am assuming none of it is conjecture but who knows.)

Tinker · 05/12/2004 19:42

She has got mad staring eyes hasn't she?. Interesting article Jan. Notice my theory (I'll take the credit for it :) ) was mentioned on Question Time as well this week.

I certainly heard it first from you, Tinker! Grin

DA didn't mention it, so presumably it must still lie in the realm of speculation. (Makes perfect sense to me, though.)

warmmum · 05/12/2004 19:54
  1. Does it matter that he had an affair? I don't think so as long as it did not affect his judgement as far as his job is concerned.

  2. Does it matter that he used his position to speed up the nanny's application? Yes it does, very much. Here is a home secretary who is prepared to lock people up on suspicion of terrorism without charges, trial or representation. What you are prepared to do to your enemy you will eventually do to your population.

He should resign, and failing that he should be sacked. He used his influence his mistress's favour. It would not have been acceptable for him to have done the same for his sister, say, or his cousin.

I don't think it is a matter for any of us if he now decides to fight about whose children they are. I can't imagine how awful the father must feel - what a mess.

warmmum · 05/12/2004 19:56

Not feeling very "warmmumish" about this.

JoolsTide · 05/12/2004 19:58

anyone hear Ian Hislop's rant on 'Have I Got News for You'? Grin

JanH · 05/12/2004 20:01

No?

JoolsTide · 05/12/2004 20:02

it was just very funny - basically lampooning DB's 'I've not done anything wrong' statement - you had to see it!

suedonim · 05/12/2004 20:31

Aloha!Grin I guess you could discover the similarities through touch.Wink

aloha · 06/12/2004 10:42

Are you suggesting he also touched Monica Lewinsky [grin} ? I suppose anything is possible...

pabla · 07/12/2004 14:03

I came across an old report of the Quinns wedding and apparently the guest list included David Blunkett (and Boris Johnson!). Don't know if this is definitely true but...

bakedpotatohoho · 07/12/2004 14:07

oh and apparently the first time blunkett and kimberley met was at a dinner with Boris Johnson and Petronella Wyatt

Shock

what WAS in the water?

JanH · 07/12/2004 14:23
Shock Is there an opposite to bromide?
Caligulights · 07/12/2004 14:42

What a revolting thought. A bunch of truly unattractive people all desperate to get into each other's underwear. Must've been the society wedding of the year!

bundleofyulelogs · 07/12/2004 14:46
