But tellies in kids' bedrooms. Tsk. [how common, emoticon]

Nah - not bovvered. Tis fine. Keeps 'em quiet.

I throw mine a spoon and a jar of Nutella too. Keeps him quite for ages.

After 6 hours of TV and a jar or two of Nutella I can't get him to go to sleep though. So I put a TV in his bedroom and he watches TV till he falls asleep.

It sounds a bit boring and unimaginative if children are sitting in front of screens for most of their spare time. Nothing wrong with a bit of TV or computer time in moderation though.

We don't do TV before school at all. Never have done. None of the children have TVs in their rooms (neither do we adults!), and we never eat in front of the television.

The children are allowed to watch a bit of TV after school, sometimes they choose to other times they do sometime else, but it is never more than one hour. After tea we might rarely watch something together but only if there's something suitable for us all and it has to be relatively short to fit it in after homework etc and before the youngest goes to bed. Weekends we often watch a film together. The two younger children go on the computer a few times a week, for restricted times. The eldest, nearly 15, is allowed one hour a day computer time once homework and music practice is done - she rarely watches TV during the week.

My DD (nearly 3) doesn't watch any TV and I intend on keeping it that way as long as I can. Can't stand the sight of zombie children with glazed eyes staring at some twaddle on TV.

Do 4 out of 5 children really have a TV in their bedrooms?

I don't think it matters how many reception rooms you have. We have only one TV - we could shove one in the dining room or in any of the bedrooms but don't think it's necessary or desirable. One is more than enough.

Elphaba · 16/01/2008 11:22

God, I wish I could get mine to watch TV - they run riot in the house and I'm pleading 'pleeease sit down adn watch a DVD'. They last about 5 minutes.

Unless it's Dora (ds3), Wow Wow Wubbzy (wtf), home video of when they were babies (they love that!). Or ds1 loves Top Gear & Crystal Maze!!
me, I'm not bovvereda bout them watching it but they don't watch much.

Elphaba · 16/01/2008 11:24

We don't 'do' bedroom TVs but have one in our lounge, one in playroom, one in morning room.

amen to the 'not everyone's lives are the same', cod. dd has a tv in her room... because it used to be our room and we hae nowhere to put it in ours. it's not tuned in, if that makes anyone feel better. but soemtimes, just someteims at 4am after she's been doing our heads in for two hours, it's a bloody relief to put the jungle book on.

mrsruffallo · 16/01/2008 11:25

I wouldn't let them have a TV in their room, but dd does get to watch an hour or so of Cbeebies after school as she is always tired, poor lamb

Is Crystal Maze back on? I used to love that.

Elphaba · 16/01/2008 11:28

Crystal Maze is on challenge or something like that - I don't know - dh puts it on for him.

Aitch - I tried Jungle Book t'other night when they were driving me nuts but it didn't work. How come everyone else's child will sit for a good hour glued to the box???

Aitch · 16/01/2008 11:30

if the jungle book doesn't work, elph... i think they are beyond help.
