His genome has been analysed and guess what? The man has black ancestors. I bet he wished he kept his stupid mouth shut now, doh.

HA!

Freckle · 12/12/2007 18:23

LOL! Has anyone seen a pic of him?

Kathyate6mincepies · 12/12/2007 18:24

Oh well, next time he says something daft he can go 'Sorry, just my black genes coming through there a bit.'
He probably will, actually

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 18:43

this is him

Tamum · 12/12/2007 18:48

I've met him- he doesn't look very black, it has to be said. Excellent news though, I saw it at the weekend

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 19:14

ohhhhhh where did you meet him, and have you ever met Crick? (genetics groupie that I am)

I've met Susan Greenfield , colin Blakemore and Ricjard Dawkins but none of the 'real' biggies. (even if Watson is an arse)

Tamum · 12/12/2007 19:26

I will have to try and find the photo to send you- I was in the newspaper sharing a joke with him (admittedly only the New Haven Register, but still). It was yonks ago and I have hideously short cropped hair but it is me, honest. There is another woman on it who had it made into a slide so she could show it at talks . I have seen him quite a few times, but that was the only time we actually met. I never met Crick I'm afraid, but know/have met a few other Nobels. That's mainly because dh is so well-connected though. Mind you, I saw Barbara McClintock going into her lab at CSH once and I was v. impressed with that!

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 19:41

I was lectured by one of the guys who got the Nobel Prize for work on the Hep B vaccine, but being young and feckless (I didn't have a fecking clue! ) I now can't remember his name

Tamum · 12/12/2007 19:42

I'll just be impressed anyway

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 19:44

Was interviewed by Greenfield, and got the gig, but went to work on another project.

May have been a mistake, on ballance.

Tamum · 12/12/2007 19:46

Impressed anyway though

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 19:50

later worked with a chap who loathed her, and dished lots of gossip, as only a thwarted academic can.....but those stories have to wait for another Coffee at Jenners!

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 19:51

Not Gordon, BTW, he was too much of a sweetie to hate anyone!

Tamum · 12/12/2007 19:52

Excellent, I look forward to that

Tamum · 12/12/2007 19:53

I am still reeling from the gossip about Gordon!

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 12/12/2007 20:02

Hello
Have not to my knowledge met any Nobel prizewinners
Just thought I'd join in and say yah boo sucks to Watson, the twat

Tamum · 12/12/2007 20:09

Welcome Pruni and apologies to spokette for gossiping and name-dropping on your thread

Blandmum · 12/12/2007 20:25

Indeed Tamum, indeed. I was utterly gobsmacked

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 12/12/2007 20:30

So is Watson just one of those great Brains who does a sound body of work and then wham! comes up with some loony theory (eg Pauling and vitamin C; Tinbergen and autism)?

PortAndLemonaid · 12/12/2007 20:39

My SIL worked for Susan Greenfield for a few years. Lots of gossip, but my lips are sealed... (actually I can't remember all the details, but if I just look knowing yet inscrutable perhaps no one will notice)

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 12/12/2007 20:40

This recent picture here says it all really.

welliemum · 13/12/2007 02:18

I remember reading (or being told) that during the apartheid years in South Africa, genealogists discovered that some very top-ranking Afrikaans politicians had black ancestors. It was all hushed up very quickly of course everyone knew and that was the end of their "racial purity" cred.

Bouncingturtle · 13/12/2007 08:42

Off topic, I've met Professor Harry Kroto - Chemistry Nobel prize winner, he help determine the structure of Buckminsterfullerene (the football shaped C-60 molecule).
Twice!!

welliemum · 13/12/2007 09:04

Ooh, bouncingturtle, did you ask him why on earth he called it Buckminsterfullerene? It doesn't exactly trip off the tongue....

Hallgerda · 13/12/2007 09:08

It's after Buckminster Fuller of geodesic dome fame, on account of the shape of the molecules.
