Good, good, good

Hulababy · 27/11/2007 21:10

Surely he can't be allowed to continue to keep making these massive errors? He has to go.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/11/2007 21:13

He works at my local hospital and our paths have crossed. Truly, there but for the grace of god.

Part of the problem Hula is that I doubt he would ever acknowledge that he had made an error.

hunkermunker · 27/11/2007 21:14

Excellent news. Cannot believe he hasn't been before!

hunkermunker · 27/11/2007 21:14

Saggars, is he just one massive evil ego then?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/11/2007 21:20

He has a very superior air about him.

I'm being polite.

Elizabetth · 27/11/2007 21:21

What a relief for all the families who have worked so hard to bring his mistaken actions to light. Now the question has to be asked as to why his colleagues allowed him to get away with this kind of behaviour for so long.

WideWebWitch · 27/11/2007 21:21

about fking time

hunkermunker · 27/11/2007 21:21

Yes, I thought as much.

rantinghousewife · 27/11/2007 21:22

I thought they already struck him off! Can't believe it has taken them this long to get round to it.

Upwind · 27/11/2007 21:24

Can't believe that twisted individual was not struck off after
"Dr Southall accused Mrs Clark's husband Steve of murdering the two boys on the basis of a television interview."
Surely that alone was enough to show he is not of a balanced mind and was not fit to practise?

I do not understand why after this tragedy Shropshire county council instructed Southall, a paediatrician, as an independent expert, to give his opinion about the safety of the surviving son.

Surely all the relevant expertise in a case of this nature would be CSI types or police?

Elizabetth · 27/11/2007 21:24

He got banned from child protection work for three years the last time round when he accused Sally Clarke's husband of murder to the police after watching him on TV.

He seems to make a habit of using his position as a doctor to accuse other people of being murderers.

jofeb04 · 27/11/2007 21:26

I really can't believe it as taken so long

Upwind · 27/11/2007 21:28

It still raises two questions:

why the hell was this man, who at best seems a deluded fool and at worst a truly evil man, allowed to practise for so long?

and more importantly why are social services hiring paediatricians as experts in areas that logically ought to be outside their remit?

franke · 27/11/2007 21:29

What concerns me about this is that if he is struck off, he might not have to face the other serious allegations which are being laid against him. Horrific as this particular case is, I find the other allegations which are out there far more sinister and far-reaching (re: the alleged experimentation on babies under his care). I hope I am mistaken in thinking this would be the case.

Upwind · 27/11/2007 21:31

Does anyone with access to medical journals know if Southall and Meadows' peers were critical of the quality of their research? Google scholar shows they were widely cited in medical literature.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/11/2007 21:32

There are lots of people locally who worship him - feeling he saved their children's lives. I'm sure he did some good work; the fact that he appears to see every mother as some sort of evil person just seem to take over.

There are several local cases he's had to answer to - the CNEP trial, possible fraudulent parental consent, secret files.

The secret files thing alone is awful - if he truly believed he was doing the best for a child then those files should have been available to all medical professionals. How can a child receive the best care if the records aren't complete?

dd was referred for 'unexplained' symptoms on several occasions - I was judged an over-anxious mother - it's in her notes. She wasn't his patient but he examined her on a couple of occasions. I feel sick thinking about it actually.

Bubble99 · 27/11/2007 21:33

Good. He'll continue with that smirk, though.

saggermaker, in my experience, those who are arrogant to the point of delusion always seem to attract followers. Such absolute conviction in their own notions...

Upwind - I don't know off the top of my head, but putting it into a PubMed search should bring up at least the abstracts for you and give some idea of how it was received. Sorry if you've already done that!

franke · 27/11/2007 21:38

Thanks milliec . That sounds right. I just remember reading somewhere that because Meadows was struck off effectively for being dodgy at statistics, they couldn't get him for anything else (like destroying entire families). Glad that's not the case here.

tiredemma · 27/11/2007 21:39

upwind- I have access to med journals- let me see if I can find anything.
