CHRIS LANGHAM FREED AFTER SENTENCE CUT

I just read it on the BBBC website - sorry, no good at links.

What message does this send to people, if possessing child pornography is viewed as so minor an offence?

I am very angry about this.

Sadly like many survivors NNT,my abuser didn't pay for my hellish childhood,he was almost given a pat on the back in court for admiting that he abused me,his new wife, heavily pregnant, gave him shining character reference shakes head and the judge sent him on his way with 3 yrs on the sex offenders list...Sadly I presume there are lots of cases like mine.

I REALLY wish that were sane custodial sentances for abusers-maybe it would make victims of this disgusting crime have the balls to come of the woodwork and speak up.

NoNameToday · 15/11/2007 13:43

themildmanneredjanitor, yes Chris Langham admitted downloading child pornography and he has been punished accordingly and quite rightly too, if you do something illegal, you pay the price, accept the punishment that is meted out.

It is the general presumption that he is a paedophile and must be punished that concerns me.

IF he is a paedophile (and this has not been proven)then if found guilty he should be punished in a court of law.

He has downloaded child pornography which every normal thinking person finds unacceptable, and been foung guilty and been subsequently imprisoned.

As I said earlier, he may be the vilest person on this earth, but, at present he is a man who has served a sentence for a crime he committed.

The crimes he may not have committed are not subject to a guilty decision by me or anyone else.

goingfriggincrazy I really hope I haven't upset you with my postings.

I am sorry that you were not served well by the courts in your pursuit of justice.

And unfortunately 'karma' doesn't always seem to be in evidence when you need it.

donnie · 15/11/2007 13:49

it is the leniencey of the sentence which disturbs me NNT.And many other I think.

leniency.

donnie, I can't argue about the leniency of his sentence anymore than others who have similarly lenient sentences which the general public find bizarre.
The punishment fitting the crime is an alien concept lately.

goingfriggincrazy · 15/11/2007 13:56

Gawd no NNT you haven't upset me,not in the slightest.

What amazes me is the 'demand' for this material on the internet - talk about the dark side of humanity. It's seems really quite common and I do wonder how many people do use it for sexual gratification, and how many because they're curious. There's no justification for it, it's vile, but if someone's curious, it doesn't automatically mean they're a paedophile. And looking at one picture might not satisfy curiosity either. I think (and I'm not talking personally here) that curiosity is an extraordinarily powerful feeling - and can apply to all sorts of abuse, not just child. I just think there's a part of this in everyone, at whatever level. I'm curious, I suppose, but I'm more curious at what these people find 'attractive' about it, rather than the material itself.

Gah, I'm trying to explain myself here and seem to be digging myself in deeper

Glad about that goingfriggincrazy.

There isn't always a platform on which to state your case, and I hope that you do find some form of release for the understandable frustrations which you have regarding the person responsible for your trauma.

How odd NoNameToday that on the Fran Lyon thread you insisted some people are just 'con artists' but you are prepared to give Chris Langham the benefit of the doubt much more than you ever would Fran Lyon, when the evidence against him, in relation to being a danger to children is much greater. I find it alarming that women are threatened with having their children taken without much evidence and men like goingfriggincrazy's abuser get to spend their lives with their own children.

NoNameToday · 15/11/2007 14:09

themildmanneredjanitor,I don't know or understand why a person may want to look at pictures of child abuse on the internet.

In the past I have looked at pictures of abused children, it was part of my job. Maybe if the internet had been around then , I would have searched for them and downloaded them, purely as an aid to my work.

CodDickinson · 15/11/2007 14:10

you dont HAVe to pay to watch child pron
sadly

NoNameToday · 15/11/2007 14:16

ruty, if I wished to post or comment on the Fran Lyon story, I would do so on an appropriate thread.

ruty · 15/11/2007 14:18

Still find it odd.

morningpaper · 15/11/2007 14:27

I don't think he paid for anything btw

NoNameToday · 15/11/2007 14:30

ruti, maybe I just have an open mind until there is evidence which cannot be misconstrued.

goingfriggincrazy · 15/11/2007 14:30

Don't think it really makes a difference whether you pay for it or if its free child porn

CodDickinson · 15/11/2007 14:33

it was mreely a point of fact

Ah, the good old 'I don't feel this way so how can anyone else' argument.

I'm not defending people who download images of child abuse, God no, but I understand that someone could be curious about it, just like people who rubber-neck when there's a car accident. Don't say there's a big difference, I know that, I'm just trying to get a handle on curiosity.

Songbird, just looked at your post

It is difficult isn't it to get involved on a thread and then realise that others posters are possibly attributing thoughts and ideas to you that were actually the furthest things from your mind.

Songbird · 15/11/2007 14:45

Oh ffs, didn't I say I'm not defending them?
