Too bloody right!

OP posts:
SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 20:34

Agreed. Really is there ANYONE who feels sorry for these self-absorbed wankers?

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 20:36

(Actually, that is a bit unfair as DH used to work with a woman whose postie husband never wanted to strike. But apparently they made it hell - complete worst shift, crap-in-your-locker hell - if you didn't.)

beautifuldays · 12/10/2007 20:41

speccieseccie - how would you like it if you were told your wages were being cut, and you wouldn't have enough money to support your family. or if you were expected to work hours of overtime for no money, or that if you were female or older and you couldn't do the job as fast as the young men that it was tough and you would just have to work longer until you got the job done without being paid for it. or if you were sick and in hospital you would have to take holiday rather than sick pay, or if your wife has just had a baby that you couldn't have time off because it was christmas

don't post about things you have no idea about.

CountessPHOENIXula · 12/10/2007 20:45

SpeccieSeccie - You don't know me so please don't call me a self-absorbed wanker

TheEvilDediderata · 12/10/2007 20:46

We wouldn't post on anything at all if that was the criteria

southeastastra · 12/10/2007 20:46

resist posting
resist posting
resist posting

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 20:48

Look, postal jobs are going to be lost as a result of this. They are shooting themselves in the foot. All, all courier companies are reporting that they are winning permanent contracts on the back of this strike. Less work for posties = less posties. Surely?

pneumalifenewname · 12/10/2007 20:48

My word!

Admittedly my friend is waiting for her birthing pool liner to arrive in time for imminent birth but I'm quite liking the fcat that I have no admin type housework to do right now

Striking is a pita but if that's what it takes then....well, that's what it takes.Blame the fat cats.

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 20:53

Countess - Sounds as though you are a postie so I'll ask: why argue about a job's conditions if the path of action you take might result in the loss of the job? (genuine, no-sarcasm question)

beautifuldays - who says I know nothing about this subject?

beautifuldays · 12/10/2007 20:55

you can't just expect people to roll over and be treated like muck and taken advantage of without doing anything about it. even if it does mean their jobs are at risk. what other alternative do they have?

beautifuldays · 12/10/2007 20:56

you clearly don't know much if you are calling them self-absorbed wankers. that is just aggressive and insulting.

Piffle · 12/10/2007 20:56

reckon the for sale board here could keep them in business
Seriously though I come from coal mining stock, do what you need to do I say...

NotAnOtter · 12/10/2007 20:56

i have sympathy and why shouldn't i??

self absorbed?

they have rights dont they?

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 20:57

There are loads - LOADS - of things I don't like about my job. But I can't not turn up to work and expect it to be ok. I can look for other work where I'll be treated better, though.

Piffle · 12/10/2007 20:57

yes having your final salary pension scheme whipped off you with 4 years left til you retire...

orangehead · 12/10/2007 20:57

beautifuldays - dont know much about working as postie but it sounds like a hell of alot of other jobs, alot of jobs have crap pay and conditions, infact most people are unhappy with there work but if everyone went on strike what crap would we all be in . What I do know is small business are losing out, ones that get work though the post or waiting for cheques through the post and still have to pay people even though only half the work coming in. Is that fair?

mazzystar · 12/10/2007 20:59

how else to get the message across though?

i for one completely support their right to strike, and understand their motivation for it

the service i get from the royal mail is a gazillion times superior to that from most couriers

CountessPHOENIXula · 12/10/2007 21:00

The changes will result in loss of jobs so you, like most people, have no idea of the reason's we are striking.

DrNortherner · 12/10/2007 21:02

Flexible attendances, change to shift times, stopping payments for delivering leaflets, annualised hours, a worse redundancy package, taking away trade union rights and a rotten pension deal - including raising the retirement age by five years are all being forced on postal workers.

SElf absorbed wankers my arse

orangehead · 12/10/2007 21:02

ah a difference there, I have had alot of crap service from royal mail.

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 21:03

It's hard to have sympathy with people who seem to feel they have no bearing on anyone but themselves. Luckily I don't have a small business that relies on cheques nor do I have dcs who won't get birthday cards from grandma, etc. but these things DO have a very real negative impact.

Also isn't 'getting their message through' simply taking advantage of the fact that they are relied on? Pizza delivery boys can't strike about their pay and conditions because, well, they aren't as vital. (Except in my world...)

southeastastra · 12/10/2007 21:04

there's a long going thread here it's emotive isn't it!

lisad123 · 12/10/2007 21:09

my dd was a postie for 14 years, and he went to work on a strike day as he had 4 kids to support, and got loads of hassle for it

I think the issue most people have with the postie's striking is how often it is happening, im just tired of waiting for my baby stuff

I heard they are planning a week long strike next week

Lisa

SpeccieSeccie · 12/10/2007 21:09

Thanks, Southeastastra. Phew. Have glanced down it and see I'm in less of a minority there. (I guess sympathy may be a bit dependent on how good your postal service was in the first place.)

SpookyDooooo · 12/10/2007 21:11

I think the next weeks strike has been stopped by a judge now.
