unbelievable

wildwoman · 14/09/2007 19:04

I just think it's bizarre. If he does have "tendancies" what is 10 months banged up going to do to change that? What a waste of time and money. Especially considering that the drugged up granny got let off in the dog mauling case.

icod - is prison an inevitability for that sort of offence, or does the tariff start lower?

The only reason his chance of reoffending is low and his remorse is high is because he got found out (IMhumbleO). 10 months and out in 5 - big deal

The photos made jurors cry. 10 months just shows that we really don't take child abuse seriously. And everytime someone like Chris Langham pays for an image of child abuse then he creates a demand = a child being abused. It's vile.

Chickhick · 14/09/2007 19:13

Why is it a waste of time and money? If you don't want to do the time, then don't commit the crime! THere has to be a deterent. I expect he will probably go through some rehabilitation programme once he is released anyway.

wildwoman · 14/09/2007 19:13

Thinking about it (and I try not to) considering the vast numbers of images that tend to be found in these cases it's bloody scary to think how many children are affected by this sort of think.

what I mean Chickhick is that I doubt a custodial sentence "cures" this problem.

WideWebWitch · 14/09/2007 19:17

Why ft are we not imposing stiffer sentences on men who commit these crimes and create this demand? There was an HORRIFIC article in the Obs last Sunday which I wish I hadn't read, talking about how bloody widespread it is and oh goodness it was so depressing and sad.

Chickhick · 14/09/2007 19:17

No, you are right. But is there a cure? I don't think anyone has successfully overcome their urges.

wildwoman · 14/09/2007 19:19

I agree but 10 monhs seems so pointless, he's just going to meet new people with new internet links iyswim. Sorry I'mfeeling "tired and emotional"

southeatsastras · 14/09/2007 19:20

i read that article it was sickening. the internet has just caused it to become out of control

filthymindedbolshevixen · 14/09/2007 19:34

I feel so sorry for his wife

oh FFS. Torture? He downloads photos of children being tortured and he gets 5 months? the man needs to go into a psychiatric hospital and stay there.

wildwoman · 14/09/2007 19:47

That's what I wanted to say but can't be arsed to deal with the "what if they got it wrong and it was research?"

SenoraPostrophe · 14/09/2007 19:52

omg, 10 months? what's the point? they've already ruined his career and reputation. they may be horrible ones, but in the end he was only looking at pictures.

no bloddy wonder the prisons
