anorak · 21/08/2007 09:06

What do you mean 'you have been warned'?

Are people never supposed to walk on pavements again just in case?

whoops · 21/08/2007 09:07

I heard it on the news just as I drove into the car park at work
How very sad My thoughts are with the family

LaBoheme · 21/08/2007 09:10

er, i think OP was referring to the sad content of the story, and warning the faint-hearted

anorak · 21/08/2007 09:11

Oh! I see.

Pinkchampagne · 21/08/2007 09:13

V. Sad
Lovely tasteful advert in the middle of that story don't you think?

elasticbandstand · 21/08/2007 09:24

how awful
and awful for the driver too
it will affect their lives forever

TheQueenOfQuotes · 21/08/2007 17:23

just read this on the BBC news website - very sad

cornsilk · 21/08/2007 17:26

terrible

shreddies · 21/08/2007 17:33

Too awful. Something similar happened in Southwark a while ago

thegirlwithnoname · 21/08/2007 22:11

This is so sad, my heart aches for them.

Dawnybabe · 21/08/2007 22:19

Just mentioned this on a previous thread without seeing this one.... oops.

Tell me how a god can exist and create this little life only to snatch it away again. I don't understand. It's so unfair.

mumof2monsters · 22/08/2007 17:34

This story is so sad. I quite often walk with my two into the village to the library and park. They are 6 and nearly 4 and it makes you realise that this is such a tragic accident that could happen to anyone.
Makes me realise that life is precious and there to enjoy.
Some have said to me in the past that I am a little overprotective of my kids but it is because I want to protect them and love them. Sorry just feeling sad about all the news at the moment. I saw today another child has drown in a swimming pool it was on sky website. Really sad

sugarmatches · 24/08/2007 00:10

This sent me in tears for most of the day...

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6960081.stm

God he was beautiful!! This happened not far from me and I have seen so many cars on the pavement. Seriously. It is a wonder this does not happen more often. And he was on the pavement for 25 metres!!! Was he asleep??? Okay, his brakes may have failed, but his steering wheel?? Hand brake??
I know I was not there and don't know all of the details, but it really upset me today!

allgonebellyup · 25/08/2007 14:02

this kind of thing happens a lot
children die of child abuse a lot

children in dufur (sp!)are being raped and killed by the day

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/08/2007 14:06

sugar - the "typical" stopping distance at 30mph is about 23 meteres (including 6m "thiking time"). I should imagine if his brakes had failed - the "thinking time" would have been longer (after all I would think his initial reaction when he mounted the pavement was to brake?), and 25 metres at 30mph (presuming that was the speed he was going) isn't really an awful lot.

JeremyVile · 25/08/2007 14:07

Darfur.

Desiderata · 25/08/2007 14:08

... and your point is, allgonebellyup?

allgonebellyup · 25/08/2007 14:08

thanks
never seen it written down

allgonebellyup · 25/08/2007 14:09

my point is that a lot of bad things happen all the time, how do you lot focus on one thing rather than another?

DanielJohnston · 25/08/2007 14:11

Funny they say about the driver's jeans being caught in the pedals. This happened to me once when the hem of my trousers got stuck over the pedal and I couldn't get my foot off. Luckily it was stuck over the clutch pedal and not the accelerator, so I was able to stop. I think I'll be rolling them up in future.

Desiderata · 25/08/2007 14:12

But that's the meaning of the word focus.

But you're right. Perhaps we should emote on worthier subjects than the death of a British baby, on a British pavement.

allgonebellyup · 25/08/2007 14:14

no need to get stroppy
