sorry but at no point has he been proven or even accused to have been driving while under the influence of drugs. he was arrested on "suspicion of possession" as far as i can see from the article.
if you anyone has any factual evidence that he was driving under the influence of drugs i welcome it.if not then i'd advise you retract it.

PeachesMcLean · 20/08/2007 17:55

The evidence required in court may not have been provided as yet but I'd be truly amazed if he's not driving whilst under the influence.

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:01

and as such until any evidence is provided or even put before a court for consideration i don't see why people would discuss it as though it were fact.
it doesn't bother me but MN could get in serious trouble.
i always have alcohol in my car when driving that does not mean i am driving while drunk.

meandmyflyingmachine · 20/08/2007 18:02

Why do you always have alcohol in your car?

PeachesMcLean · 20/08/2007 18:03

Can you imagine Pete Doherty suing Mumsnet? Like he'd care? We're not exactly his target audience, are we?

niceglasses · 20/08/2007 18:04

If the press would leave him alone, he probably would be your bog standard druggie.

Hes only doing what he does. Its the bloody press. Can't you see? One to many Dail Mails I think.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:09

Pete Docherty sueing MN for saying he's a danger to everyone on the roads - psml.

"In April, district judge Jane McIvor gave him a £770 fine and a four-month driving ban after he drove under the influence of drugs without a licence."

I know, let's just wait until he kills someone, eh?

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:11

Ach...Doherty.

niceglasses · 20/08/2007 18:12

Well you could say that about most pple who either drink and drive or take drugs and drive. And there isn't too much we can do about them either. And they kill pple every day.

I'm not defending fooking Docherty. Lock him up for all I care. Just be aware of the nice hate figure the press likes to paint for you.

It seems to be working.

kerala · 20/08/2007 18:13

DH and I sat next to Pete Doherty and his entourage on a flight last year. What a shocker. His friends were extremely dodgy they seemed as if they were just out of prison. One of them was repeatedly kicking the seat of the man in front of him to try and provoke a fight. They all smelt very bad - BO, stale alcohol then covered up with cheap nasty aftershave.

How Kate Moss could bring herself to spend time with them I can not understand. They made us and everyone around them feel really threatened and on edge - we were very glad it was a short flight.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:14

Yes, and they are all utterly contemptible. He should go to prison. Not only is he a useless, sweaty-faced little weed, he is repeatedly getting behind the wheel of a car while off his face.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:15

My dad was killed just before Christmas by a drunk driver. I have zero sympathy, oddly enough.

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:28

so it is ok to libel someone if they have no intention of sueing you? as i've said before i am talking about this case and this article not that he is a danger on the roads generally. but that he has commited a specific crime when there is absolutely no evidence.
i really fail to see what your dads death has to do with him being arrested on suspicion of possession. if he was driving under the influence of any substance, then yes throw the book at him. but at the moment (or as far as the article says and i have not seen any updates) he is not even being accused of driving while under the influence in this case so it is pointless to discuss the scenario as though he has.
he has been arrested for suspicion of possession, have a go at him for that. i have no doubt he should be in jail if half of what is reported about hi is true. but i would like him to be punished for a crime he commits rather than one people are assuming with little or no evidence.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:29

Sigh. I repeat:
"In April, district judge Jane McIvor gave him a £770 fine and a four-month driving ban after he drove under the influence of drugs without a licence."

Sueing?? Don't make me laugh. He's a tosser, and a potential killer.

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:32

"Why do you always have alcohol in your car? "

just do.you never know when it might be needed or come in handy.just keep a crate of beer in the booth so if a summer barbeque or night in a friends house goes the way of drinking i don't have to go hunting for any.

meandmyflyingmachine · 20/08/2007 18:34

Eh?

Doesn't it get warm?

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:34

sigh: do i need to repeat

"as i've said before i am talking about this case and this article not that he is a danger on the roads generally. but that he has commited a specific crime when there is absolutely no evidence."

the fact that he commited a seperate but similar crime in april is in no way proof that he repeated the offence.

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:35

yeah it does. but warm beer is better than no beer and after 20 minutes in a freezer it's cold enough.by the 3rd beer it's nicely chilled.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:40

Or that he has been arrested at least six times for driving under the influence and erratically? Oh ffs, we know he's driving while drugged to the eyeballs. He has also been driving without insurance and while banned.
I hope you never have to endure the experience of one of your family being killed by some disgusting scumbag who doesn't care about anyone but themselves, I really do. I had to find a way to explain to my five year old son that someone had killed his grandfather. It wasn't pleasant.

whiskeyandbeer · 20/08/2007 18:45

i also hope i don't end up being the kind of person who assumes guilt and jumps to conclusions about others without any evidence. as i've said before if there is evidence of this crime and he is guilty he should be punished by the courts. i just don't see how it helps the discussion of this case to have people assume he is guilty of a crime he is not even being accused of. if it turns out he was not driving under the influence of any drugs it will only serve to trivialise any crimes he is actually found guilty of as there will now be a seed of doubt in some, as people on here seem so sure to convict him without any charges even being brought it will only give those who defend him a reason to defend him further in the future.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:48

Why are you so keen to defend a convicted dangerous driver? Fancy him or something?
SOme of us have personal experience of the havoc this kind of person can cause.

aloha · 20/08/2007 18:49

I'm not discussing the 'case' anyway, I am discussing the man. Who is utterly contemptible. Driving while on drugs, driving with no MOT & no insurance. He is a potential killer.

Tranquila · 20/08/2007 18:57

personally, id be very very surprised if he doesnt regularly drive while under the influence. if he drives regularly that is.

hes a sodding junkie fgs, when is he ever not under the influence?

seems odd to jump to his defence in such a manner. why should you care?

Cloudhopper · 20/08/2007 19:00

Poor sod. His life is a train wreck because of a drug addiction that he obviously can't kick. How can you feel so little pity for someone who is so likely to be dead by the time he is 30?

Walk a mile in his shoes I say.

niceglasses · 20/08/2007 19:01

Why should we care?

For me, I don't really 'care' in a personal way about Doherty. Its more the principle of trial by media - not a million miles away from pple maybe making decisions about oooh, child neglect, child abduction, whatever you want on the flimsy evidence of the sorded daily papers.
