How cute is that.

That's a real man that it.

I could just squidge his cheeks me

Has he got a book coming out? Or a new series of Top Gear by any chance?

[cynic]

OrmIrian · 23/07/2007 10:55

mrsbabookaloo - so did I at first sight!

Furball · 23/07/2007 10:55

That reports he helped his nearby neighbours which are actually 5 miles away from where they say he lives

Piffle · 23/07/2007 10:56

As my mum always said

Big Man big Cock
Little Man All Cock

What a dad!

Gizmo · 23/07/2007 10:56

Y'know, maybe I'm a cynic. And I do rather like the Hamster persona, but...

How did the press get hold of this story?

A passing reporter just happened to see Mr Hammond getting his running kit on and thought:

'ah, that's lovely, he must be running home to his family. That'll make a nice item for the 'and finally' section'

Ummmm, no. Some-one, somewhere, has rung up a reporter and told them this. Someone who knows the sort of image they're trying to build for their client. Methinks Mr Hammond has a very astute agent.

OrmIrian · 23/07/2007 10:57

Don't suppose he turned any of the flood water into wine while he was at it did he?

anorak · 23/07/2007 10:59

I don't find it sexy to be worried sick that my dh is risking his life at his job. Prefer someone more 'dull' on the face of it but relatively reliable and a peaceful life.

Don't understand why pointydog receives such a tongue-lashing just for remarking about the newsworthiness of the subject. It was a harmless remark.

pointydog · 23/07/2007 11:00

theman, wasn't aware of any satire

pointydog · 23/07/2007 11:01

why, thank you anorak.

meowmix · 23/07/2007 11:02

I was wondering that too Anorak. Thought it a fine example of british cynicism myself.

pointydog · 23/07/2007 11:03

ALthough a tongue lashing is always fairly likely when you obviously don't like a sleb that many love.

anorak · 23/07/2007 11:04

Either that or someone is just in a bad mood today

OrmIrian · 23/07/2007 11:06

I think he's very nice and probably a lovely daddy and all that but I don't know why anyone needs or wants to know the minutiae of his life. But then I've never quite got the concept of slebdom.

ProfYaffle · 23/07/2007 11:15

Awww. I have a soft spot for him, dd1 has the same name as his dd. My dh also had a brain 'incident' (way before RH's and in very different circumstances) so I kind of think he's like dh's celebrity twin.

Heathcliffscathy · 23/07/2007 11:29

agree that it isn't news.. it's PR.

which kind of makes you like him a bit less doesn't it....that he (or his agent) would capitalise on his personal life in that way.

Gizmo · 23/07/2007 11:36

Weeellll, I don't have too much of a problem if people want to capitalise on their personal life, when it's just theirs. This story starts to put his daughters in the public eye, too, which would be too far for me.

But I wonder if he realises that if you open the door like this, you are setting yourself up for some much less pleasant coverage if things go wrong. Imagine the press potential now if he has a row with a neighbour, or if his marriage looked shakey?

ThestralFeet · 23/07/2007 11:41

I luuuuuurve him

He is luuuuuuurverley

He can do no wrong as far as I am concerned

I suppose that it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that he let this get out, but there is also a (small) chance that someone who knows the family leaked it to a journo without the family's knowledge/permission [hopeful]

claraq · 23/07/2007 13:14

I live in Cheltenham - do you think I can go and "claim" his Porsche for myself (although would not be able to afford insurance)

nomdeplume · 23/07/2007 13:16

This is news ?

Man rushes to offspring's birthday bash ?

Lauriefairycake · 23/07/2007 13:41

I posted this, it's as much 'news' as any other crap posted on here about harry potter or jordan.

And since we don't yet have a topic entitled 'sleb' news, 'crap news no one cares about' then i will post what I like.

and I liked this story, it's cute.

Was going to post the one about measuring polar bears, (also cute)

edam · 23/07/2007 13:49

I think it's an amusing story and he obviously is happy to talk about it since he's quoted. Don't really care if his agent placed it, tbh.

bananabump · 23/07/2007 13:57

Aaw, this is adorable. I'd have been way impressed.

RubeusDuck · 23/07/2007 14:00

I think it's a lovely story and makes a change from the "shock horror sleb did something horrific" headlines that normally get bandied around.

zookeeper · 23/07/2007 14:02

who is he?

clumsymum · 23/07/2007 17:42

Seeing as we've had a few threads on here recently about dads who don't bother about their kids, go to the pub every night instead of coming home, then I think this is a loverly story, and I don't begrudge it one bit, however it got into the press.

I'd like to think my dh would do the same (he works away alot too), but seeing as he's pretty unfit, he'd either have a heart attack en-route and need rescuing, or be soooooo knackered that he'd have to spend the next 48 hours on bed-rest
