I was. I have chosen NOT to tell my nearly 4yo about this. I haven't discussed it in detail with 9yo ds either I CHOOSE not to put the news on in our house. I really resent this being shoved at my children before a U cert movie. Completely inappropriate imo.

cc you were very funny lower down the thread

FelicityMontgomery · 02/07/2007 16:02

Did they not cover the Madeleine news story on Newsround?

contentiouscat · 02/07/2007 16:03

Intentionally or by accident? (very sleep deprived at the moment)

on prupose.

who cares abotu newsround it snot liek compualsory

FelicityMontgomery · 02/07/2007 16:18

Only ask as Enid piously stated that's the only news her children are ever subjected to and only when watched with her.

Oh what high standards she has.

Just made me think, was it covered on there?

CodHun · 02/07/2007 16:18

maybe she turned it off?
i woudl haev done

mumto3girls · 02/07/2007 16:20

Felicity - why are you being sarcastic about Enid?

FelicityMontgomery · 02/07/2007 16:21

Maybe she did.

In fact I'm sure she did.

Just wondered if it was covered at all? I'm a poor excuse of a parent who let's them watch newsround alone while I make the tea, so I wouldn't know.

nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 16:23

yes it was covered. they had a phone in thing asking how the children felt about it too.

FelicityMontgomery · 02/07/2007 16:23

Beacuse I find some of her comments nauseating and I am implying that with my sarcasm, rather than just stating it.

FelicityMontgomery · 02/07/2007 16:26

I see nappyaddict.

No MN outrage at that then (or was there?).
I'm sure I'm not the only one who leaves the room while her children watch newsround.

or maybe I am. on here.

nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 16:27

they did however note how unusual it was for children of that age to go missing and to be missing for such a long time and they tried not to make it sound too frightening.

CodHun · 02/07/2007 16:32

bit we all LOVE enid so you wotn egt far there

nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 16:33

just found this:

AMBER Fletcher is only six years old, but she is as anxious as her mother about Madeleine's abduction.

The search for the little girl has terrified Amber and her classmates, who spend playtime at Dunbar Primary School in East Lothian discussing "the bad man" who has taken her away.

Sarah Fletcher, a mother of three, says the girl's disappearance has had a massive impact on her two girls and the community as a whole.

"Amber watched Newsround and then started asking questions. She wanted to know where Madeleine had gone and whether she would ever come back. It has really affected her and all her school friends. It's the first thing she thinks of when she wakes up in the morning - 'Have they found Madeleine yet?'

"All the kids are talking about it at school.

"I think people will be paranoid about it, especially with summer holidays coming up.

"We've all tightened up on where the children can play now. Amber is nearly seven, but she's not allowed to go around the corner to the park.

"If I can't see her, she can't go. There's just no way now."

So from that I can see why some people might be annoyed it had been put on a children's news show.

budrose · 02/07/2007 16:34

i am writing a story about this for the times tomorrow. if you saw the mccann ad before shrek and feel you can help me please see my note on the media thread, posted a few mins ago

contentiouscat · 02/07/2007 16:42

I think the level of information that we allow our children to have differs we make a decision regarding what they can cope with based on their personalities and age.

The issue here is that the choice was taken out of your hands by showing it with a film which the youngest children can go to see - one would assume that if you are taking your children to a PG film that they should be able to deal with the advert too.

So the answer is instead of wasting time pressing post next time criticising each others personal decisions take the time instead to send message to the ASA as Cod has done - thus ensuring they have enough complaints to make removing it necessary.

slayerette · 02/07/2007 16:48

Have just rung Vue cinemas about this since that's our local. Operator didn't seem to think they were showing anything about Madeleine before the film - can anyone confirm this? Have been successful so far in shielding ds (4) from the news and would like it to stay that way.

Enid · 02/07/2007 16:53

lol @ criticism of my newsround wathcing habits

yes it was covered as it happens - very well and very appropriately with much emphasis on rarity of situation

MascaraOHara · 02/07/2007 16:54

In answer to the OP alone as have not read the thread.

I took dd on friday night and was very pissed off. I was going to start a thread when I got home but didn't get a chance.

My dd already has heard too much about it IMO and asks me if she's dead, is she home etc

Enid · 02/07/2007 16:55

and lolol at somehow I am ubermummy as I dont let my 7 and 4 year old have free reign with remote

Greensleeves · 02/07/2007 16:56

pmsl, no you are the scum of the earth because you types reign instead of rein

Greensleeves · 02/07/2007 16:56

Well, as it happens, that was how I discussed it with my DD.. with much emphasis on the rarity of the occurance.

But before I re-don my "I Am A Good Enough Mother (After All)" tshirt" I have to point out that mine don't watch Newsround at all.. with or without mummy-supervision; they are being drugged with Nick Junior at that time of the day.
